aes VS 1.0 is the latest Visual Style from KoL, one of the most prolific stylers for Windows XP. This theme was released a little early, and future versions will include a blue theme as well as the tan one in 1.0. As usual, KoL pays wonderful attention to detail and color schemes. His controls are well drawn and useful without calling attention to themselfes. The color scheme is pleasant if a bit monochromatic. However, the orange highlights, particularly for checkboxes (look for them!) are perfect.

The theme is reserved yet very functional and attractive. The start button is particularly well done. Few themers seem to handle it well these days, perhaps because the button is so easily changed with StyleBuilder. Regardless, this theme shines best in not shining at all, instead it is a study in useability and conservative look.

Milk Vista is a sweet collaboration between the popular Mac theme "Milk" and the new Vista visual style. Monochromatic is a good word to describe the original Milk and it worked really well in a minimalist desktop. For those wanting a little more flare to their Windows eXPerience, Milk Vista 2 offers 6 different colors to the mix, including black (my favorite), blue, purple, green, orange, and pink.

The theme is well drawn and has very smooth title bars. Nearly every windows add-on I've thrown at it as drawn perfectly, as can be expected of a theme that has been crafted so well. Evgenjii has created a highly usable design and added a nice blend of color that will make Mac and PC users feel comfortable.

Included with the theme are ObjectBar and Styler themes to match and .theme files for each color. Lean back and enjoy the cornucopia of colors.

Palladium is a style that I have shed a few tears over. It is so nicely dark that it stands out in a crowd. Dark but professional, smooth and gray but with proper highlights and wonderfully drawn icons and window controls. My tears have come when some of the applications that I use just won't look right when Palladium is the theme. This is not ChiLam's fault - it is the fault of poor interface design on the part of the applications developers. They assume that a light style is the only way to go. They are wrong.

This style is exquisite and lacks only a wide start menu to be perfection. Use it with a top task bar or bottom. Enjoy the dark flavor, and if your application doesn't look right, then bag that application and find another that looks perfect, because this style is worth it!

Milky Dreams is a very soft and light theme. Controls that are inactive are softly recessed into the background, while active controls and windows receive a more sharpened focus. This theme is vaguely OS X reminiscent, but strikes me as more original and not just another take on the Tiger theme. There is a single color and start menu width for this style. The thin task bar and menu bars are well designed, and the window controls for focused windows are clear in function and easy to find and click. This theme is easily one you can keep in your desktop rotation.

Lutetium GUI is a dark theme from the prolific themer KoL. This theme includes Apple and Windows Flag start buttons as well as thick and thin Start Menu styles. The round buttons are sublime and the light blue accent colors fit perfectly. The Window Manager controls will show their functions on mouse over. Title bars are smooth and blend very nicely in with tool and menu bars. This theme is nearly perfect and represents that quality work that KoL continues to produce for the theming community. This theme is a port of the Lutetium GUI theme for the Mac by Rick Patrick (esXXi).

Repetoire is a style that encourages an alternate look at the way that Windows XP feels. This theme is full of soft edges, rounded corners and beautifully sculpted buttons. The consistent use of color integrates the theme well. Window controls have a slight highlight when hovered over, but do not reveal their function, with the exception of the red (and not blue) close window button. The Start Menu comes only in a wide version and the mouse overs in the menu are fantastic. The smooth as butter khaki toolbar backgrounds are a great example of how Windows XP should have done it.

Resident OS is another one of those themes that takes you by surprise -- wonderfully different, yet comfortable as an old pair of Converse sneakers. Everything is right and in the right place with this theme. The Window Manager controls might be a tad small, but their function is clear and they are part of what make the theme so attractive. This style is available in Compact and Regular sizes Start Menus. Be sure to check out Moshin's website at http://www.gfxcanvas.com.

Milk Vista is a sweet dark theme that is a combination of the newer Vista styles, color wise, with the Milk saucer style Window Manager controls. The theme is very useable, and the only fault I could find with it was the Tray Icons Expander control, which looks like the ASCII characters "<---". The Start Menu is only a thin style. The glossy title bars and soft round buttons are very attractive and well drawn. There is only one color scheme "ChocoDark", Evgenij must have been thinking about Oreo's and Milk when he whipped up this design.
