I began making icons for OS X in April of 2003. As an avid mac user and icon collector - I began to find some sets that were unavailable and just screaming to be made. At the time, I also had a rather unvisited portfolio site at mbstuart.com that needed an incentive to draw traffic. "FREE DOWNLOADS" seemed to do the trick :)
Now I'm honored to be a part of the GUI community and look forward to pushing out more icon sets as time ticks on.
