A New Years Sunset

January 4th, 2008

Taken New Years Day 2008 at Zuma Beach: Malibu, California . Probably the best sunset I've ever seen there. No post-processing or color distortions; looked exactly the same to the eye. Shot with a Nikon D40 camera and a 28-70mm f/2.8 lens.

Gorgeous. I love when you get those perfect shots and don't have to do anything to them.

Fantastic color! I love how the color was captured in the reflection on the water. Being a native of SoCal, you are so right there aren't many sunsets like these. You captured this at just the right time for the graduated color effect. Simply beautiful...great work!

I was actually on Coronado Island that night, cursing that I didn't have my camera! Thank you for capturing it!

Wow, I just got back to NYC 2 days ago, and I remember seeing that sunset from the Glendale Area in Los Angeles. I remember being outside talking to my girlfriends brother and seeing that sunset. Little did I know someone was out there capturing that same moment in time. Great pic! :-)

Great photo mate! Gotta love all of the vivid colors going on here. My 22' monitor and surrounding co-workers all give you two thumbs up.

Thanks again!

Stunning. I love the color of blue at the top. As I was admiring it, a few pixels of black in the bottom-left corner above the water caught my eye. Any guesses for what it is? Seagull? Boat? UFO?

@jellyturtle...it's not a ship because there is sky background between it and the sea. It appears to be a bird because if you look carefully it has two wings--one pointing down right and another pointing left top with head of the bird pointing to the right...now it's no longer "Unidentified" but it is a "Flying Object" :o)

I live in San Diego, and i was out for this sunset too. By FAR the best sunset ive ever seen. The colors were amazing and the cloud formations only made it better. Thank you so much for posting this.
