Falling Star

September 13th, 2008

I wanted to create an image with the feeling of a dream. I mean, when you look at the landscape and everything is perfect and you want to be there to feel free a.s.o. And capturing the moment of a falling star makes the title of it.

I love love love the sky. I wish there was a version large enough of just that. I'd crop it but then it wouldn't be big enough for my monitor.

Wow -- it's rare that I KNOW I want a submission on my desktop just from looking at the thumbnail. This is really great stuff. Not only amazingly creative, but superbly crafted. Thanks!

Great looking wallpaper. One problem, the road perspective seems distorted. Shouldn't the deviations in the road (due to the hills) become much less at farther distances? You have it backwards, IMO. Nice wall though!

Good composition, the only thing I didn't like so much were the roads, but it's not so bad, your artwork looks so good to me. Congrats.

Great sky. The landscape detracts from it though; mainly the fake roads and field of view blurs (they're wrong). i.e. If the furthest hills are blurry (things are getting blurrier as you go away from where you are standing) then the farthest part, the backdrop, would be even blurrier.

The image suggests that you're supposed to be focusing on the sky. But the blurred hills suggest you're focusing on the closest hill.

Ha. Figures I'd get rated down. Yes, the road is distorted and the blur is a tad distracting, but this desktop still beats the hell out of your generic HDR sunset. Sorry.

Wow, thank you for all those Critique & Comments. I really appreciate that. Yeah, the Blur is not realistic, but I didn't want to create a 100% realistic Wallpaper :) !

Absolutely spectacular sky emperaa--A++ The landscape, however reminds me too much of the Windows XP standard wallpaper (with a road thrown in). If only it were a post-apocalyptic city covered in ice this would be perfect.

I'm sorry but this is just horrible. You can add graphic blur to pictures and it may look really good but this is not how it's done. It also is absurd that the farest objects in the sky and the nearest road is in focus but the hills in between are not?! And the road looks too fake. If you want to create a dreamish picture use brightening, don't use negative vignetting. The only thing good about this picture is the sky and admit it you copied from somewhere else. You need to try doing better...

@ Reverie :

Ok, thanks for your Critique. I respect that. But this :

"and admit it you copied from somewhere else" ?!?!?!?!!!!

is just ridiculous. I'm not a Biter!! I never copy Artworks from other People. That's disrespectful to the Artists!!

Very well done. As it was said before, I don't regularly change my wallpaper either, but just looking at the thumbnail made me realize this was something awesome.

I think it has great potential - honestly! But the 2nd and 3rd roads are not done very well. The blur is off - too strong. I would tone the blur down a lot. The sky looks great though!

Wow, if you were going for a surreal dream, you surely succeeded. Amazing sky, the clouds are actually what makes it for me. The road is abstract and I can appreciate that more than most who have posted comments here. It works really well when the focus is drawn past the horizon.

I just wanted to say thanks for sharing this with us. It's the first time I've wanted to use something other than a photograph for a desktop wallpaper. I love the combination of space, the sky and clouds, and the road leading into the distance. For more it's all very symbolic :) I enjoy. Cheers.

I work in IT and I find your wallpaper very soothing as my desktop. Strangely enough it kindly reminds me to check my ToDO list - which is a good thing. :) I really like it. Thanks.

A big planet in the sky isn't going to look as blurry as a distant road tip on the horizon. Sure this pic isn't 100% realistic, but it's suppose to be surreal. A lot of the complainers seem to be missing the point. As for the road looking closer together as the proximity of the viewer decreases - not necessarily. This wallpaper looks good. End of story.
