Green Grass

May 21st, 2009

This was a quick shot i took in my backyard using my Nikon D60. I corrected the colors a good bit in photoshop.I apologize for some slight noise due to a higher ISO. ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/13s, 18-55mm at 55mm.

The colours and the subject are very nice, but as you said there is some noise that reduce the quality of the photo, too much in my opinion

s1ipp3ry: i wish i had my socks knocked off so easily. what virgin innocent land or planet do you come from?

regarding the picture - this website in the last few months goes as follows: macindows, gin, gin, macindows, plant/grass macro, gin, macindows, macindows, some freaky photoshops creation, gin, gin, macindows, plant/grass macro, gin. and gin. i like gin. but he already has a website.

when you click "disagree" the iranian-style censopsrhip model this site employs kicks in, banning members who are often DISAGREED WITH from commenting. way to go. (just though you might wanna know that before you click).

The picture is decent. I take it he's trying out a new camera.
As for the repetition of artists and themes on here, I quite agree. Not denouncing Macindows or anyone else, but when do they post new stuff? I uploaded 2 or 3 pics that I think are worth a show at least. As a new photographer, we all need a little scathing criticism to put us on the right track :)

macindows: with the exception of the "spectrum of the sky" which is just plain unpleasant to look at, i really like your work. it doesnt have the same kind of perfection to it like gin's shots, but still great. i just would like see some variety. no matter what subject matter gin shoots, it's always got gin all over it, everytime. give me something new that's all i want. you keep up the good work. wish i could shoot like you.

I actually prefer the colors in Macindows's shots over those of Chris Gin. Both of them have vibrant palettes, but I feel like Chris lives in a place where the environment makes the colors come to the photographer, while Macindows can find unusual color in mundane places. The word "Rangitoto" is burned into my brain from Chris's submissions... I'm glad he switched up his vocabulary from sunset and sunrise shots to new material.

Maybe this is just my perception of their IFLfolios though.

fatClyde - yes i am using a new camera, in fact i just started photography around a month ago.

Thanks to everyone that has commented so far. As far as noise goes, i found out after this shot that the D60 isn't great at ISO400.

I'll give s1ipp3ry the benefit of the doubt. I think he was being sarcastic. Macro grass is probably one of the most cliched wallpaper themes out there. Hitnrun, you ought to return to the scene of the accident and apologize.

brizkit, I'm not really sure what you mean by returning to the scene and apologizing... So I'm not going to take any offense from it as i doubt any was meant. Also this wasn't shot with a macro lens.

Noise shouldn't even be that bad if lighting is adequate. If the grass was in a shady area you aren't going to get the results you need for a hi-resolution image. You always get more noise in a darker area because your sensor is on for a longer period of time on a higher gain (slower shutter speed and higher than native ISO).

I like it, but might do further editing to add a darker vignette and greener contrast.

XHTZK - Ouch.... well everyone i entitled to an opinion.

I agree with fatClyde, in the las two/three months I've submitted like 10-15 pics. From those, the posted only one :(. I think some of them are great, but still i love Macindow's and Gin's photography. You can see some of my shots on my website link. By the way: I'm an advanced amateur.

I know what you mean Santiago. They either need to hire more staff (even volunteers) to upload more quality wallpapers, or we need to move to a site where they upload quality, and not a billion average-quality 3D images by the same artist (you know who I'm talking about).

Well, I put this on my desk. It looks fine. However I, no matter if that would look fake, redefine colours a little, those blues on some leaves really doesn't fit, altrough they are in reality, I just don't like those greens that miscelate with blu. Resolution I guess is upsampled, or the focus wasn't right. Well, anyway keep on...

Those blue tones can be changed by adding some temperature. Anyway, great shot!

Those blue tones that people seem to be talking about are not present in my version. When uploading an image, you basically give interfacelift the right to edit the images colour, etc as they wish. My version is a goof bit darker, or my monitor is not properly calibrated. Thanks for commenting, everyone

If you'd like to see the original, although in a smaller resolution you can see it on my flickr here : http://www.flickr.com/photos/hitnrun7/
