The Moment Before Impact

February 28th, 2010

I took this picture with my old camera on January 1st, 2008 near Mummelsee in the Black Forest where I lived before I moved to the Caribbean. The quality is not the best because I had no professional camera at this time but I am sure some people here will love that shot anyways and I wanted to share it before it get lost. If anybody want the original, please let me know.

You may not have had a "professional camera," but the picture is still a very nice one. Remember that "the best camera is the one you have with you," and "gear is good, but vision is better!"

I imagine it's symbolic in some way, but I'm curious what the title means.

Great picture, and bmndibb6, I'm a bit puzzled by your comment. Apparently we all have "no taste" because we can enjoy his photo that he took? Please think before you speak next time.

i didn't expect the picture coming up anymore here. i remember that i submitted this image already 2 years ago but the owner of the website rejected it. i will upload the 2560x1600 version of this image together with the original in a zip file later tonight. i gonna have to make a short trip to the other side of the island now but when im back i will do it right away. its not the best quality sadly but i think its an amazing moment to capture. by the way. below those clouds is a valley with a village.

@ white dog. when i worked on the picture in ps i imagined that a meteor would bring up the light just moments before it hits the planet. so i thought that might my a nice name. better than "winter" or anything non create like that haha

Very nice shot. Just proves that you don't need all the gear to capture the moment.

Nice, but a little grainy (esp. the foreground)

Amazing Wallpaper. But also waiting for the higher resolution version, 1920X1200 doesn't stretch that well on my 27-inch iMac.

Amazing light and setting. love that shot. The yellow in the sunlight in contrast to the snow-white and the colour of the trees is amazing!

Hi, splendid it reminds me of the Vosges in France where I go often. Do you remember on what time you took this shot ? Morning or Evening ?

hmm.. it was late afternoon i think but from the position of the sun in this pic it could have been noon too. morning is impossible because i always sleep long haha.

Thanks. So the sun is South West and the snowy mountains far in the background are the Vosges !
