This one isn't working for me. Too many halos and too much saturation. Looks like a default Photomatix tonemapping setting. :S

I love the photo--very refreshing--thanks for taking me somewhere I could never go!

Peaceful, almost perfect, but the green is too blurry, it's like typing FisherPrice in Heroes of Might and Magic III.

Looking at it again on my desktop, there is some slight blurriness, I agree with Euphytose-but still a great photo.

I can only imagine how much THAT little hut costs per night!

Excellent shot - the angles are not perfect, but it's still excellent.

Like it and works good as desktop picture. Thanks!

Awesome location I would love to be there right now... As far as this image, it's okay but composition is somewhat odd and does not work for me too well. I guess it works okay for a wallpaper though. Now as far as the technical aspects go this is a different story. First of all it's way over saturated meaning that none of the colors look natural. I don't even need my CS5 to confirm that for me. Also as pointed out there are blurry spots possibly because of the wind and exposures not lining up well same goes for the boat ghosts and there is obvious excessive noise in the image as well which can be removed in CS5 ACR 6.1 with no issues. And last but not least is there is somewhat heavy tone mapping present that results in some obvious halos. So to sum it up ... Great effort but next time please don't rely solely on the software... you have to control it and not let it run wild. This is the biggest mistake folks make with Photomatix and other software.

Igor Borisenko Photography,
Try to to let your 'supreme' eye for detail decrease others from enjoying the composition. It's like me pointing out the arrogant and ego driven reasons for using a self portrait for a forum avatar... I wouldn't do that, it's just rude.

Right on, JoeNobody.
about 13 years, 10 months ago
@ JoeNobody... I am sorry if I offended you. First of all I want to let you know that I have voted for this in the loupe. I am as a photographer enjoy constructive criticism and where it's valid take appropriate action by improving. No one is perfect we improve as we age. Apparently you have misunderstood my comment. I was simply trying to be helpful with explaining why some aspects may not look right instead of just saying I don't like it... it's blurry... or ahh my eyes! I guess not everyone appreciates helpful comments with explanation. Re-reading my comment I do not see anything rude or anything pointing to arrogance. I can't yank out my "supreme eye" as you call it since that would greatly reduce my income.

Again like I said I was trying to be helpful and not to be offensive in any manner. Good luck with your photography. Cheers!

I have to agree with Igor Borisenko. The critique wasn't intended to spite your work, it was intended to help you improve it. Unless of course you're putting for the proclamation that the image is perfect...

Anyway, I can't give you as good of advice as Igor, but the photos is alright. The angle isn't my favorite, but the image does work well as a desktop. It looks like a great place and I'm sure it was fun to be there regardless of whether you were taking photos or not.

I wasn't going to jump in here again but Igor hit the nail on the head in a very constructive way. The author then replied in a rude ungrateful way. IMO this image falls into the category of your typical over done HDR.

I guess after all I am not the arrogant type obviously. You know the fact is they say the person that can't take criticism and can't say sorry is arrogant and full of pride. Being helpful and taking time to explain various aspects is in no way rude or arrogant but being caring and generous to the society. I was just not expecting this type of a reply from the photographer. BTW I will try to upload some images this weekend to be more generous I guess. Have a nice weekend everyone.

@Igor

There is absolutely no need to justify yourself!
I thought exactly the same things about this picture and wouldn't have posted a comment if it wasn't for JoeNobody's immature reply.
The picture is way oversaturated and... Not gonna go there again because you nailed it!
Your kind of criticism was in every way constructive and should be the very purpose of this comment-function.

Sorry JoeNobody but if you can't appreciate such comments and use them to improve your results you really shouldn't submit anything!

This is ART. It's not always meant to be photographically perfect. The image looks like a painting, and it's a lovely effect. Yes, it's quite saturated. It's a very vivid HDR. But it looks great. In this case, I'm not looking for perfect colour reproduction. Does the image work as a desktop? Is it aesthetically pleasing? If it is these things, then the individual has succeeded.

This site is about free, high-resolution wallpapers. can be anything from the abstract, to CG landscapes, to everything in-between, with an eye to quality. Yes, this photo is overdone (and so is Narnia), but it works.

At the end of the day, it's each to their own. I like the saturation and the rich colours... I feel that it suits me. I sharpened it up in my graphics program, so that's not a problem, and I'm not seeing much noise either.

The composition, for me, is excellent and I love having it on my desktop.

Constructive criticism is great, but remember not all of it is accurate on such a subjective thing as a photograph, where people all have their own preferences and opinions, so you mustn't take it seriously.

@Actias, yes that is true but no where is Igor saying his thoughts on the photograph are absolute truth. He is just giving his opinion (which I and others agree with) so that the author can get feedback on his art. If JoeNobody made the artistic decision to oversaturate etc to get a certain look and knows why he is doing it, then fine, but if not, he may be ignorant to the widely-held view that overprocessed photos are generally frowned upon by most experienced photographers.

I am more of the mindset that if I don't like something, I don't download it and move on to something else. If a style is not something I am in to, I don't waste my time writing critiques about things I don't download and don't like because I see no point other than bringing attention to myself to either try to look like I have more knowledge and therefore qualified to review or to just be a troll.

This is a free site for wallpapers, not a photography contest.

Someone can weld a bunch of garbage together and call it art and it ends up in a museum. Art is in the eye of the viewer.

If you like it fine. If you don't fine.

At the end of the day, no one cares why you like or don't like it.

I could pick apart all the nuances of everyones submissions, but I have better things to do.

@JoeNobody
If you like it fine. If you don't fine.

The same rule if applied to comments too, much of this word war can be avoided. Just as you feel that it is unnecessary to comment on pics you don't like, it is equally unnecessary (and pointless) to retort to comments you don't like. I am more of the mindset that if you don't find a comment helpful then don't waste your time thinking about it and move on to next one.

I am no photographer so can't say anything about the tips which Igor gave but his first comment was definitely not meant to be offensive.

that apart, i loved some of your Loupe submissions and would love to see them on the main page.

cheers.

"but I have better things to do." So why even write the reply? ha ha, just joking with you.
I happen to really like the picture, and it is works really well for a desktop background(according to my preferences.)
Thanks for sharing Joe.

beautiful wallpaper. Anybody who criticizes it in anyway is definitely jealous because they can't capture and make such nice colors out of a pick like this.

Many of the wallpaper posted on this site is dull. This one is actually nice and bright, and beautiful.

Good work JoeNobody. EXCELLENT.

Why have a forum if no range of comment is to be entertained? Constructive comments serve not only the artist in question but other viewers as well. I think this forum adds an additional dimension to this site. I love reading comments of all stripes. When the day comes when I make a successful submission, I'm willing to take the heat, if it comes to that.

Personal view: I think, as was implied in the paragraph above, that this is much more than a wallpaper site. People are submitting their artistic endeavors. To me, the fact that these images are to be used as wallpaper is incidental to the great creativity exhibited here. The quality of work on these pages far transcends any utilitarian purpose. This is art folks.

As I like to say, "Everyone is entitled to an incorrect opinion." Take mine for what it's worth.

Nice, Stu.

A lot of us are repeating the same sort of thing over and over again, varied only by which submission we comment on. Art versus photography, what is good, what is bad, and what criticism is "appropriate" and what is not. Perhaps an FAQ or a mission statement from the IFL admins would settle a lot of this. What is IFL? What is the point?

It is in the spirit of avoiding unnecessary redundancy in comments that I'm offering this up. IFL has definitely evolved since I have been coming here, but a lot of newcomers are entering into the same arguments that had once been resolved (or at least brought up time and time again).

But I do think that the forum attracts most of us as much as the submissions do. Rock on.

This one is pretty awesome IMO, from a viewpoint of very little knowledge, and more being annoyed that I now see the blurriness of greens because people pointed it out than being able to see anything wrong with it myself :). Having the action on the right is great for how I keep my desktop, and boy is it appealing, into the bargain!

I reply because it's my work and I have a vested interest in feedback for the most part. To all whole love the shot and took the time to say so, Thank You!!!

It was taken in May of 2008 at the Intercontinental resort.
Heres the exact location, The map should center on the bridge I was standing on looking out over the ocean.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Tahiti,+French+Polynesia&daddr=-17.490708,-149.891893&hl=en&geocode=CTgrXnUwfqMBFRir8v4dhvAX9ymNLWVCH0qadjFAl80Vampi8Q;&mra=mi&mrsp=1&sz=18&sll=-17.490708,-149.891877&sspn=0.004027,0.004823&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=-17.490697,-149.89185&spn=0.004027,0.004823&z=18

Thank you for all the conversation, a little extra interest for viewers when there are an extraordinary amount of comments compared to others. Free marketing as I see it. :)

Sure, this pic is by no means my best one and a few years old taken with a old camera (digitally speaking). This is a free site and I am not going to put shots online that I make money from. That would be silly.

But everyone starts somewhere, this is one of the early ones. Take it or leave it.

Last comment on this shot from me, I am done feeding the trolls.

This really isn't a photography site, it's a wallpaper site. Thus, images should be judged not on what they present, but on their use as a background image. Thus, there may be nothing wrong with over-saturated unrealistic colours. It ultimately is ones own opinion on what they think of a photo, but when it comes to commenting, it should be based on how good it is to be used as a wallpaper.

Just wanted let you know that I have downloaded this wallpaper and it's on my desktop just after a little noise removal and after I desaturated the blue and orange a bit. It's a great wallpaper just like I said before. Keep these coming Joe.
