Magens Bay

June 18th, 2010

Taken at Drake's Seat overlooking Magens Bay in St. Thomas, USVI. Simply one of the most amazing views in the world and I couldn't miss the opportunity to capture it.

Nikon D5000 at 18mm, f/8, 1/160s, aperture priority, +0.3EV. Touched up in CaptureNX 2.

@ rejectED... Huh? Are you kidding me? What over processing are you talking about? Have you even seen St. Thomas before? My sister was there on the cruise and that's how her point and shoot camera untouched images looked like. This is as real as it gets. I guess your screen name and your avatar says a lot about your comment. I still can't believe I read that. If you think it's over-saturated you could tone it down in your software and there would be no need exaggerate that this image is ruined. Give me a break.

Regarding this wonderful wallpaper now... this is just phenomenal. I wish I could live in St. Thomas. These islands are some of the most amazing parts of the world just like the photographer said. I am amused with that part of the world and some other exotic islands around the globe. In my opinion this image looks great and very realistic in it's appearance based on the location and what I have seen in the past. The sky could be a bit overexposed because of the increase in EV. If this was shot in RAW it should be an easy fix to balance the sky. Keep these coming. I would love to see more from these gorgeous islands. Cheers!

Very nice!

rejectEd, are you sure your monitor is properly calibrated?

I actually kind of agree with rejectEd, although I might have made the first comment a bit more tactfully. It looks to me as though a lot of detail is lost in saturation, especially in the leafy foreground. I still think its a great picture, but for me, saturation and exposure issues make it less appealing. None the less, thanks for submitting!

Nice scene, not-so-nice photo and execution.

The far landscape is too " wooly ".

I agree with some of you on the saturation, not to mention the horizon line is crooked. On another note, I'm just glad I can get better wallpapers via the Loupe downloads that I am shocked do not get enough votes. Landscapes are nice, if somewhat common. The person who did that LP player...that is one hot background!

I must say, I desaturated and blurred the image just a bit and it helped tremendously.

While there are a few minor flaws in this desktop, the overall quality is excellent.

I think the saturation levels are extreme. While I don't want to condemn this too much as I like the picture, I can't believe Igor and others are oblivious to the the green/blue enhancements. Take a look at the buildings on or near near the shore line. They are positively glowing with saturation.

The horizon appears to be slanting downward which is throwing the overall composition of the photo off for me because it's all I can focus on.

too much saturation and would be nice if the ocean would be straight but beside that nice shot. you don't really have to do much to take awesome shots here in the caribbean.

Thank you all for your comments. I am definitely an amateur photographer who is currently learning about shooting and processing. I appreciate all the constructive criticism that were provided. Since I have the RAW file I will make some adjustments and post an updated photo on my flickr (I don't think I can update it here).

Thanks again.
