insect shots typically suck, all of the energy usually goes into getting as close as possible without scaring the bug off, and there's very little time for any other considerations like composition etc.

this picture here is a beautiful exception to that, this is art. and i loved your previous one too. these are the only two bugs in my wallpaper collection.

Sorry, I have to disagree quicksand and say that that insect shots don't typically suck. I would urge you to google "fred miranda macro world" and take a look at some of the photos there. I do agree with you that some shooters can make a fetish about getting as much magnification as possible, but most of the pics you will see at that foum mentioned below (I am sure there are many other sites as well) do very well with regard to composition, etc. You're right that there often isn't a lot of time to get a great shot of an insect, but that's one of the things that makes macro great fun. You should try it.

On the photo, I like it because I prefer macro shots with selective focus instead of the opposite. I've spent the past couple months being wowed by macro shots at the site mentioned above, so I can't say this pic is the best I've seen, but it is a great addition to the backgrounds offered here, and I'm glad to see another insect shot.

Congrats.

Not an insects fan, but nice shots. nice colors. ;)

Btw. I've no idea whats happening in "The Loupe VOTE!" system. Cause I've never seen pictures which got approved in front page before in the Lopue system!!! Is there any other voting system?
