Wow, this is a beautiful shot! I am interested in getting a 5D but want to wait for the Mark III. Is that a MkII or original? How's the EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM for you? I played with that lens a bit when I've rented it, but debating between it and the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM.

I was just in Montreal for a week. BEAUTIFUL city! Do you live there? I'm actually looking for a job there so that I can relocate there.

As far as the processing, I'm impressed at the sharpness and how little noise there is in the image. Want to share any tips on your processing?

Great job man!

Boily, it is one of the best shots on IFL and definitely the best in city nightscape genre.. Just my opinion..

The quality is oustanding. Great sharpness without halos. At 1680x1050 windows amazingly coincide with pixel grid! Looks almost like a 3D render. Flares around lights are awesome as well!

Jordan M. : thanks a lot for the comments :)

I shot this with my 5Dmk1 and the 24L mk1

I did some color and exposition corrections to the .raw file and a little bit of sharpning, thats all.

I'm from Montreal, I live about 25mins from the spot where that picture was taken :)

Great picture ! Fun to see a familiar place in such a beautiful way.

I'm wondering about the 'writing' in the top section of one of the tallest building... Seems to spell 'SORTIR' ('going out' in french).

That's the Tour de la Bourse skyscraper.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tour_de_la_Bourse

Artist Aude Moreau turned it into an art installation where the top floor windows spell out "Sortir".

splendid. atmospheric. like a max payne screen shot.

this is as good as it gets.

good call on the 'max payne' feel of the picture. definite 'noir' undertones. probably feels much colder than it actually was, as well. either way, definitely wasn't expecting to see my city on the site. nicely done.

not an artist or photographer myself, so i can't rightly say what would be likely to improve it in a technical sense.

For being a cold, overcast evening in Canada this shot is so beautiful and welcoming. I especially like the flares from the lights, and the reflection of the yellows in the (frozen river?). I like how all the buildings in the back have blueish lights and all the ones in the foreground are yellow. And even though it's so sharp and almost noiseless, it does have a gritty kind of feeling to it as well. Maybe because there's no sign of life and it feels like a good spot for someone to mug you. Heheh... Thanks for this beautiful shot Boily! More! More!

It can't really be improved. Maybe some color adjustments in the sky to bring out the clouds more or something but everything about this one is superb! Thanks again!

Absolutely wonderful!

I have lived in Toronto for the last 25 years, but I was born & raised in Montreal for my first 25! My family & friends are still there and so is my heart & soul!

The image is perfect. No question that working with images in RAW format is the way to go.

This image gives me goosebumps, and not because of the cold.
This will be my wallpaper for the foreseeable future.

Merci mille fois Guillaume!
