Icy Sea

January 8th, 2011

This is a snowy jetty near Marina Minde, Denmark. It was a very cold evening (-15°C/5°F) but it was worth it for the photograph :)

Canon EOS 50D, Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6, Manfrotto 055xProB.

The magenta-tone works very well for me! Great feel-of-distance in this shot!

Perhaps it would be even better with a little more foreground (some rocks with ice on it and more of the gangplank?!) Just a thought... ;)

Really beautiful. I like the colors and how clouds don't dominate the picture too much. Usually that many clouds disturbs the image, but this is perfect.

Rigtig smukt lavet. Jeg ville næsten ønske jeg var hjemme i kulden.

Thanks alot!

@maniacbluez: yeah, I had stones on it when I made the photograph but it was so atilt that they were cropped when I adjusted the horizon.

@Ras: I'm not Danish :)

Very nice balance of warm sky and cold ice. I think the composition works very well. The jetty serves to add interest and directs the eye not too obviously to the center of focus on the sunset. The photographer resisted the temptation to center the brightest part of the sky or the horizon, two common traits of amateur artists.

I had to look up Manfrotto 055xProB on Google, though; not being a gear hound I didn't know it was a tripod.

Do you own the site, scheibe-photography.com? Also nice pic

Nothing really needs to be changed. Just curious about that site.

Yes, scheibe-photography.com is my homepage. Why do you ask?

I was checking the EXIF data for the precise location the image was taken at (if you used a GPS adapter) and saw the copyright attachment, but you mention nothing about that site in your description

I only thought that maybe it could have been someone elses image which is why I asked about the site ownership being yours.
