Good Night Nice

February 4th, 2011

Image was taken mid January in the Park du Chateau over Vieux Nice, at the French Riviera, at around 6pm. Photo is comprised of 5 exposures at +/- 1 and +/-2. I had to beg the guard, who is closing the park every night at 6pm, to let me take this very last shot for the day. If i had stayed three minutes longer, I would have had to spend the night in the park. Well, at this view, not such a bad thing actually! :) Enjoy!

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM.

Smooth work! Lot's of details to look at. I like it a lot, thanks. :) Wish I lived there. You should contact the park administration office and make sure the guard on duty gets to see the result of his kindness!

Maybe lose the trees and lower the horizon, but maybe it would look weird then. The ferris wheel is dead center as well. Then again, I think this composition works they way it is as well.

I love the shot, great use of HDR. BUT, too much sharpening! EE everywhere!

Ahhhh, Rainer, you've done it again! Another city to gape at in wonder at the most bewitching time of day. You've used the HDR precisely to preserve the natural quality of the photograph and to keep the image sharp. This is what HDR does best, giving the photographer the tools to show what range of light the eye sees. I'm hoping that there will be more "Good Nights" from you. Well worth the close shave with the guard. Thank you.

I really like the location and composition of your image! Great work!

I am tempted to say that this photo would have made an amazing HDR photo, as I feel that some of the possible definition is lost on the far mountains. But overall, I love it and am downloading a high-res version...

This is one of the better HDR images to show up here. The image retains a effective tonal and appropriate color range; rainerbrunotte resisted the temptation to overexpose the shadows. Many photographers flatten an image too much in an effort to bring out every detail. However, though the human eye sees more than any camera can in a single shot, it does not see everything. Excessive detail makes an image look cluttered and unnatural.

There is, however, too much sharpening here, creating a lot of edge artifacts. I'm going to run it through Lightroom to see if I can clean it up a bit.
