A Winding Stream

February 28th, 2011

This image is from a series of photos I took of "Mt. Baldy" this past July. Located just outside of Grand Lake, Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park, this valley was one of the most picturesque places I have ever visited.

The images were shot vertically and stitched together in photoshop to achieve much higher final pixel count than would be possible with this camera's native resolution. I have intentionally refrained from 'over-saturating' the colors because I wanted this photo to look as realistic as possible. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!

Nikon D60, Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, Apple Aperture, Adobe Photoshop.

From past trips to colorado, these are very "true" colors for the rocky mountains.

I like this image a lot. And what I especially like, is that you left the colors "natural". A lot of pictures here are great concerning the motif / the landscape, but the colors are simply too "pushed". It's more artistic and not photography then...

So, if this is a picture from a series... let's see the other ones!

This is spectacular ... I love the natural colors, feels like I am right there :) My desktop (and eyes) are enjoying your work very much, keep em coming!

Great natural shot that has a good outdoor vibe about it I`m sure lots of people will agree.

I added some saturation to it, hope you don't mind it only needed a little ..

I took a whole lot of photos on this trip but this one was definitely the best. I usually shoot even wider panoramic 'series' but the size ratio necessary for this website would really detract from what I usually try to shoot. I'll get some more posted in the next couple weeks. Thanks for all the positive comments.

I won't be offended if you want to add some extra color... that's purely a matter of personal preference.

I like composition and flow of the river. Nice job overall!

Here is my edit on it... It just looks a bit more alive now! (vibrance, shapened, contrast)

Could you have shot the photo a bit more to the right..? to get more of the river flow into it? the trees on the left are a bit distracting.

Lucas: I opted to keep the mountain centered in the middle of the image rather than focus too much on the stream running to the right (although I think my original stitch has more river visible to the right). I think your edits are fine; but I had my reasons for keeping it the way it was.
