Monument Valley

March 5th, 2011

A landscape of the Monument Valley, Utah. I didn't modify a lot the picture, the colors were good.

Nikon Coolpix L14.

The framing and composition in this picture are OK, however its flaws are more in its technical quality.

It is just incredibly soft, with no fine details visible anywhere in the image, and the horizon just looks like one big blur. Remember that sharpness and detail is something that is particularly important when it comes to landscape photographs (which is why landscape photographers tend choose the highest resolution cameras available to them). As you have said you didn't modify this image very much I can only assume this is how it appeared out of the camera, so this is one instance where you might get away with being able to blame your equipment!

Good composition. Bad quality. The artist probably had so much noise that they did a heavy smart blur which practically got rid of all the detail in the photo. This one looks great small and not good at all full screen in my opinion. I only wish you had a better camera and better post-processing effects applied, then this piece would be splendid. As it stands I can't use it as wallpaper. I would be interested in seeing the original however.

Very good artist eye, but author is lost small part of picture on the left side, he cut a legs.
Excelent colurs and excelent moment.

Quality is small. Bad equipment.

Excelent photo, but result is much better with post correction:
PhotoShop, Smart sharpen(lens blur 96%, radius 2,6 pixel), saturation (+16%).... etc.

Excellent compo as previously highlighted and the colors are decent from this colorful place but something major happen here.

I don't know if it's the equipment to blame or post processing. I suspect post processing. The image is smudged and way too soft to be useful for wallpaper. Apparently whoever voted for it did not look at it at the actual resolution. This could have been a stellar shot but right now it mediocre. That's too bad since there was a great potential.

Good eye, and wonderful colors in the photo, i love the landscape in the background and you can see a little haze in the platoes

but poor quality i wish you would have had a better camera for this shot

Much the same as others have said. Very nice looking from far.

Same camera I have. Can't expect much from a coolpix. It's not meant for this sort of thing.

This image is fantastic for what you shot it with. I think you have a lot of potential but you should get a better camera. I can imagine this same exact image would be amazing with a canon mark II or somethings similar.

I kind of like the smudged effect. I looks animated or cell shaded or something like that.

... but in the end it's not something I'd consider to use as a wallpaper. Too bad, nice scenery otherwise. :)

Thank you all for your comments which are very useful for me. You are right, I find too that the quality is not perfect because of the camera I had at this moment. I wish I had a better one. The original picture has noise, and I found no other solution than to add a bit of blur to the picture to remove it. This is my first contribution to this website, and I'm glad to read your invaluable comments. I will follow your advice for my next pictures and not add so much blur.
