Where To

May 20th, 2011

While waiting for the Sun to set for a new Monaco cityscape twilight shot, the clouds over the sea towards the Italian border were nicely lit. And together with the yacht going back into the port of Monaco for the night, I was very lucky with this situation. One RAW shot with slight increase in vibrance. Enjoy!

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM @ f/11.

Nice colors and feel. Until I download my image resolution (1080p)

I wish the Photoshop work of the mirroring of the ocean wasn't so obvious, including the cloning of the water of the boat.
Overall, I just wish this image was at least 95% what the camera captured. I can understand retouching some dust spot, I'm less tolerant on a cheat on 25% of the image. I think this was more than a "slight vibrance increase".

@Pillippe Clairo, I know and in the description they makes no mention of this like they don't think we would see it right away? The clouds are nice and the picture is sharp and well saturated, also the boat looks great. However, the mirrored ocean ruins it for me. So what I did is download the largest size, because i run at 1080p as well, and I'm going to crop just the sky and see if it's keepable that way (or maybe the the boat if I can). I really like your "Demain" picture rainerbrunotte, so I hope to see more like that or better in the future. =)

I really like your other pictures in the gallery, they are really amazing, but

I read the 2 comments before and i have to say they are both right.
The image would be very good, but the water is mirrored very bad and the horizon still looks like a fake, because it is too sharp.
It's absolutely okay to do some changes in Photoshop, I do it myself, but it should not make the image look weird.

Thanks for the feedback! Now that I look at the picture again, I must say that the mirroring does really come out too strong! I didn't really notice it while working on it (I guess trying to make an image too perfect, can backfire!) :)

The problem was that on the left side there was part of land, which did not fit into the picture at all. However I really wanted to keep the yacht on the right, so I thought mirroring would be a good option.

Thank you, and I will try better next time! :)

The boat has no bow wave or wake.

Unless it is stationary, and the people are fishing !

I think that rainer took that criticism rather well. Bottom line is, keep being creative because we know you are. =)

Luckily I had another shot of a similar scene unfortunately without the sky, so using the sky of this image, it might work better: http://bit.ly/kfHUgl What do you think?
