The Whitingham Epiphany

June 5th, 2011

I kayaked and canoed along this 10 mile long reservoir only to find that what I had been looking for was there the whole time.

Olympus EVOLT E-500. Adobe Lightroom 3.

Love the image. And the title sounds like a Big Bang Theory episode. .

Nothing I'd change. .

The scene and the setting are great, but the colors are WAY too fake.

Maybe you you could upload an original without the 'over the top' PP

silhouette is nice...

chemtrail in the upper-right corner ruins it for me...

awesome, beautiful picture! I am liking the quality of voter picks lately

~ ugh, I hate chemtrails, especially because they kill you slowly over time (it's our government that is doing it and won't even admit to it officially)

Awesome sunset; would like to know locale. We also get many here like that in So. Cal..
...In reply to other comments; this may very well be close to the original w/slight enhancement /boost of some gamma or color saturation w/ the Adobe Lightroom3 as noted. It also depends on the camera & lens, as well as the angle, and if shot vertical or horizontal; I've had my nice little sturdy digital Samsung NV for a few years and get some amazingly impressive eve and night shots with it, some to the extent of this level sunset.
Lastly, the contrails just add to the level of evening sky action for me, as they lightly / picturesquely drag off the energy of the day...

I think too much post-processing was done to this one. Probably because it had noise and wasn't that sharp so to cover up those facts he did lots of digital manipulation.

Also, I agree the "chemtrail" ruins this and many other shots for me. There is a difference between con and chem and some places you can see it more than others. Here in southern california it's especially bad. You guys should watch "What In The World Are They Spraying?". You can download it from filestube.com just search for it there and find a link that works. It's a good documentary about chemtrails. Nobody knows for sure why the governments of the world are doing this, but they keep on doing it anyway. There's tons of evidence that the chemicals used are mainly aluminum and barium. Interesting that more and more crops can't grow now without having special aluminum resistant manufactured seeds. Hmmm... All will be revealed in the next couple years... Hopefully. Peace.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I thought this comments section was for discussing the submitted wallpaper, not crackpot conspiracy theories...

Anyhoo, I would have to agree with Thomatis and say that the colours are way too oversaturated - the yellows around the sun are almost radioactive, and the purples in the clouds give the image a very 'fake' look. I'm not sure whether that's the look he was going for here (increasing saturation can and does work well for sunrises/sunsets, but you have to be careful not to overdo it) or if it was just edited on a monitor with poor colour accuracy. Either way it doesn't really work for me I'm afraid.

You mean contrails? A natural occurence produced by jet engines like those found on...airplanes? All will be revealed? What the? Lay off the crackpipe.

I like this image, but have the same problem - oversaturation. Also, I don't like seeing people in landscape shots...just a personal preference.

Given the photographer's location, I'd guess that this is Lake Whitingham in southern Vermont.

@ daddy_gemini
Contrails, (vapour trails) are water droplets turning into ice crystals.

How a turbine engine emits aluminum and barium is a bit of a puzzle.

@Thomatis: No, it's a conspiracy. It must be a conspiracy, it obviously isn't something that ordinary... neh, barium (I'm sarcastic, by the way).

Back on topic... the image looks great. Its colors are fantastic.

However, the colors are fantastic, but they are fake. The setting is great, but I dislike seeing people in landscapes as well.

The colors are great, but as others have said, they seem too fake. Upload the original so we can make a better judgement.

I disagree with others on having people in landscape shots. In the right circumstances, it can be great, producing a feel of tranquility, oneness with nature, or loneliness, depending on the setting. In this case, if it was just the the person on the boat, I'd love it, but the person and dog on the shore are distracting.
