The Falls at Sunset

June 24th, 2011

I took this shot on a recent trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario. This place is amazing. I won't bore you with the stats, but it's a lot of water! They aren't as high as I thought they would be, but they're really wide. This is one of three falls there. It's called the Horseshoe Falls and it's the biggest of the three. Hope you like! -Danny.

Canon EOS 60D, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, Adobe Photoshop CS5.

well done danny!
love the colours and the long exposure on the waterfall.

i'd like to see more waterfall and less sky by placing the horizon line far away from the centre of the frame.

This is a powerful shot. I agree with Maurizio a little more sky would have made it even better, but not too much, definitely not 2/3, because then you would lose too much of the great texture on the water's surface and also that great little cliff on the lower-right. Also I think the exposure is just a tiny bit too long, but what do I know... It still looks great thanks Danny! =)

The sky is wonderful, I'm glad you threw the rule of thirds out the window on this brilliant image! I have seen many images of Niagra and this is an exceptional one in many ways. You really caught the drama of the water and that red clouded sky really contrasts the teal-ish blue waters in a fantastic way. My new desktop! Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback Guys! I definitely learn more everyday and your comments help a lot.

I wanted to capture equal sky and water since both were such an amazing sight so I set the horizon where I did. I was really surprised how green the water is there. It has to do with the sediment in the water from the erosion.

I think it could have been better with a little more depth of field. I shot this at 1/2 second @ f/8. Perhaps f/14 or f/16?
