Yll䳪䲶i

August 4th, 2011

This was a lucky shot! On our snowmobile ride a friend and I took the wrong turn and found ourselves on the way up the mountain. While attempting to turn the snowmobile around, it got stuck and therefore we had time to take some pictures of the magical sunrise/sunset scene. In december the sun never really rises above the horizon in this area. Ylläsjärvi, Finish Lapland.

Canon EOS 20D, Canon 18-55 Kit Lens, Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.

This photograph is a perfect example for a high quality picture without expensive lenses. You captured the right moment, I like the soft and warm colors of the light in contrast to the coldness and snow.

This photograph is just perfect. You can almost feel the softness of the snow. The trees feel so close that is almost as you could touch them. I cannot belief the level of detail achieved from such a distance. The level of noise is inexistent. And that's something really difficult to do with sunsets and sunrises. The crispness of the picture is just amazing. Congratulation on this work of art. It will stall as my desktop wallpaper for a while. I cannot take my eyes away from it.

This looks like claymation... Someone convince me that it's not, because it is a nice picture.

Really nice and works great as a WP. The colors look good and it's nice and sharp.

I don't think there's anything that could be done to improve it. Really nice!

I agree with everyone else this is beautiful. I think it's the sky that really takes it from being good to great because you feel the warmness of the sun along with the very cold landscape which compliments each other in a very juxtaposed way, and it helps that the yellows and magentas compliment each other being on opposite ends of the color wheel. Crisp and nice composition for capturing the depth of the scene as well. Thanks offenblende!

Excellent image, loistava kuva! And nice to see a picture from Finnish Lapland, this is probably the only one at the site.

Thanks a lot everybody for the nice comments. Much appreciated!

@masa: Kiitos paljon! :) I had a great time in Finland (I lived in Helsinki for 4 months) and the visit of Finnish Lapland was maybe the most impressive experience of nature's beauty that I've seen so far.

This makes me want to buy a snowmobile and go get lost on it! Great shot, offenblende!
