Mossy

October 21st, 2011

This autumn day I was mushroom hunting in my local forest and I brought the camera just in case. This turned out to be a great choice when the Sun started to set between the treetops. This made the lightning particularly interesting in this place.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM, Adobe Lightroom 3, Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Lovely. It looks just like Acadia National Park in Maine. Is it?

I would be interested to see the white balance converted to a more warm color to see what it looks like. Just a thought.

Thank you! This is actually in Sweden, outside of Gothenburg.

Balance and subject matter are there and it works. I could see how a lot of people would like this one but it feels a little "lifeless" to me, no offense. Possibly all the sticks and dead branches everywhere contribute to this feeling. Especially since the title subject matter, I just want to feel the green and the "life" growing everywhere, but it's lost to me because it seems a little too much de-saturation and vignetting was applied to this in post work. Neither are bad ideas but I think you went a little too far is all. I also wish the sun had more rays coming off of it for a more dramatic look. The image as a whole does seem a little too cold in the coloring/hue too like BJB hinted at, especially since we can see the sun directly ahead, the cold colors feel slightly unnatural. I love forests but if I were you and wanted to put this in my portfolio I would post-process it again and just not go so far with the filters and sliders. =)
