Off Duty

October 27th, 2011

Magnolia Street in Huntington Beach, California. I got this shot as a small and early winter-type storm made it's way out of Southern California. The beach was completely empty and perfect for an evening shoot.

Sony α100, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II shot at f/3.5. Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Wow, this reminds me of an abbandoned space station!
I love the colors and the detail in the image, nicely sharpened.

Normally, I'd say there is too much noise in it. But this time, it gives the image the finishing touch.
This could be improved but I like it the way it is.

Thank you!

Wow, really sweet shot. esp. for us beach sunrise /sunset lovers.
Outstanding colors, quality, imagery / solid technique.

Nice shot! And since I used to have family right next to this beach (they moved a few miles further lol) I've been there many times, and still go there from time to time since I live two hours away. Sure, it could be a little sharper, and the RV Camper and other RV/Bus? on the left kind of take away from the photo, but I know there is always traffic around there so it would be hard not to get some big vehicles in the shot.

I wish the sand in the foreground was a little sharper though, that would have really made this great. Those newer lifeguard towers are a little sci-fi looking aren't they? Guess it's for minimal heat absorption/maximum reflection since it can get over 110 degrees F there in the summer. As it is, I like it and will keep it because it's different than your typical beach shot, nicely framed, has good colors and it's a familiar place to me so it brings back many memories. Thanks! =)

Nice location and colours !

But yeah, it's not a good idea shooting wide open with a kit lens.
