San Francisco Fever

December 10th, 2011

A little blue sky coupled with the full moon goes a long ways in creating an ethereal feel as the San Francisco skyline looms in the distance.

Nikon D700, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II.

Beautiful pic. Lovely city and terrific job of capturing a moody atmosphere with the purple sky and bright moon overhead. Well done!

I like the simple palette for a desktop - it's not too busy. I'm also interested in the detail of the moon, and also the crispness of it's perimeter. Is the image a single exposure, or are the sky and city separate exposures, or is the moon added from a completely separate image? The moon looks almost like it is a sticker on top of the photo. This is not intended to be a negative comment, rather a question!

Thank you everyone for your compliments...It's actually one image, not two. As long as you get the right exposure then it's possible to capture the details of the moon in addition to the city itself.

This is a great picture and surely will have it's place on my desktop in the future, but I'm a bit surprised that nobody seemed to notice or be bothered by it's inclination to the left. I had to rotate it to the right about 10 degrees until it looked right.

Beautiful shot! How did you get such detail on the moon? Whenever I try, it just comes out as a white, glowing orb.
