Ithilien

May 29th, 2012

I took a trip to some of the Lord of the Rings locations in New Zealand and our guide explained to us that this area was chosen to be Ithilien in the movie.

Nikon D800, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED shot at f/5.0. Adobe Camera Raw.

Awesome shot! I love the fact that there aren't any people or buildings visible in this pic - this alway annoys me in similar photos.

I don't know how to improve this terrific capture. Colours are perfect and it ist perfectly crisp. Thank you so much for your contributions!

Yep, gorgeous shot. You're quite the world traveller, Mr Kamp! Congrats on your 61st post on IFL!
How do you like the Nikon D800 so far?

Wow! Just superb! This is one of the most beautiful shots I've ever seen.

I wouldn't change a thing. Hope you share more photos from this trip :)

Great shot! So serene and breathtaking. Everything looks so natural (glad there are no buildings or powerlines in the picture). Thanks!

I created my own 3200x1200 copy by making a mirror image. Looks really cool on dual 1600x1200 monitors.

Gorgeous... one of the best I've seen. Water texture is especially stunning.

Thanks for all your nice comments! I think I mentioned this before, but New Zealand is simply one of the most beautiful countries when it comes to landscape photography. Apart from Canada I think, there is hardly any country that combines vast, mountain landscapes with close to zero population! I envy Chris Gin (and many others of course) for living there! ;-)

@ Phillipe:

Thanks! Oh I absolutely love it! From my point of view, Nikon could have easily decreased the sensor resolution to 24MP as many lenses (apart from Nikon's nano coating ones) are not able to capture the full resolution. I shot this one with the Nikon 70-200mm at f/5.0 (sorry for the misinformation in the description). With that lens I'm able to take super crisp photos at full 36MP resolution. However, when taking my Sigma 50mm f/1.4, the pictures are often a bit washed out. Maybe that's a production fault, but what's clear is that the D800 is absolutely unforgivable when it comes to shaky hands. A tripod is definitely always recommended.

AAAAAH!!! This was beyond a pleasant surprise when I logged on InterfaceLift today!!! What a beautiful image. Cannot WAIT for the film to arrive. Me and my siblings grew up on Tolkien's novels, so to say I am nostalgic is quite the understatement! Best to you, my friend. Thank you so much for sharing!

Once again Dominic you have proved your mettle. This photo exudes peacefulness and serenity. It does bring back so many memories as my time as a Hobbit. Don't ever set your camera down.

Absolutely gorgeous image! So clean and soothing. No signs of life, just nature in all its glory. I love images like these.

Very nice photo, I like the softness of the piece. The word that comes to mind when viewing this piece is zen.
Ace!
