Jasper Bald Eagle

September 4th, 2013

While driving around Medicine Lake in Jasper National Park, I spotted this bald eagle in a tree near the road. As I attempted to take a photograph, it flew away. Luckily for me, the eagle circled back and landed in another tree nearby. I was able to sneak behind a tree and snap a few photos.

This photo was taken with a Canon Powershot SX50 HS and processed in Adobe Lightroom 5.

Photo Settings: 215mm, f/6, 1/100 second, ISO 800.

This is an amazing photo of a Bald Eagle! I love everything in the shot... the foggy weather, where the majestic bird is perched, how it's looking down focusing on something... And the most interesting part is the variation of the bald eagle's plumage. Most American bald eagle photos are subjects with perfectly neat, well-defined colors in the feathers. Here, this birds plumage is variegated and you get the sense he's resilient and tough.

By taking more interesting shots of wildlife! Thanks!

By the look of the picture in general, it is, or has been raining.
The Eagles plumage is wet so I guess it won,t be that neat.
A powerful picture, with loads of atmosphere.
Well done.

This picture is amazing! I love him on the top of that pine tree with the fog in the background.

the internet says it is probably about 2.5-3 years old based on the plumage.

i really dont think it could be improved actually. The framing is great, as is the focus.
