Its actually a park, mimicking an island. The horizon and angle of composition mimic an island. Taken at Point Pelee Provincial Park in Ontario.

Long exposure using a Lee 10-stop filter. Adobe Photoshop CS6.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0L USM.

Photo Settings: 17mm, f/11, 20 seconds, ISO 100.

That filter produced some nice colours...I love long exposure shots!

Some fun trivia: I looked up this location and it seems to be the southernmost part of the Canadian mainland, so it's as close to a tropical island as you guys get! :P

The spot was easy to fix. I did it with spot healing in Aperture.

simon, point pelee is a must place to go for people in canada cant afford a trip to the tropical island. :)
