This photo was taken in Abruzzo Italy on 24 February 2012, shortly after sunset. It shows the Gran Sasso, a mountain massif whose peak is the highest of the Apennine mountains. The Gran Sasso is also known as the sleeping giant, because its profile resembles an asleep colossal creature.

Taken above Lake Garda near Tremosine, Italy. It was a very clear day after it rained, so all the dust in the air was gone. Because it was so clear the Milky Way galaxy was visible. On all the other days of my vacation it wasn't possible to see it. I hope you like it!

Taken at Aci Trezza, a town in Sicily, southern Italy. Located on the coast of the Ionian Sea, this village has a long history of maritime activity. Aci Trezza is a popular spot for Italian vacationers during the Summer.

Off the coast of Aci Trezza are three tall, column-shaped islands. According to local legend, these great stones are the ones thrown at Odysseus in The Odyssey. Not far from the coast (about 400m) is the "Island Lachea", identified as the Homeric "island of goats". Today it houses the University of Catania's biology station.
