Not necessarily fake, but faked. It looks like it was either pasted on top with feathered edges, or the artist used too large of a brush while working on it and lost the detail around the edges of the trees. My view of it shows he (she?) just got a bit overzealous with the burn tool, which is why the cloud in the middle has so many artifacts in it. If you look at the trees directly below that, the edges are much darker than they should be, suggesting extensive use of burning is present. It's a cool pic, but if it were me, I'd work on it a bit more and resubmit.
