Colorful Place V. Color

December 13th, 2007

Colorful place V. Color at Serra da Estrela. Original edit of my serpia(ish) version as many people asked for the original pic. Here it is! Thanks, Joel.

I had a bit of fun with the two versions of this picture. Just a quick 3 minute p-chop, but the results are nice. I took this image as the base, then composited the sepia version on top as a 70% Overlay. Then I duplicated that layer, changed it to a medium blue under Hue/Saturation and did a 10% Color Dodge. Try it out and see if you like the results as well.
Thanks for the short little mental break from work.

Note that if you want to try what AdamP just described, you should start with one of the 16:10 resolutions (2560x1600, 1920x1200, 1680x1050, 1440x900, or 1280x800) and then downscale and crop to your desired aspect ratio. The crops of the other resolutions may not match precisely.

Joel,

Can you please explain what specifically was done to this pic in Photoshop? I'd appreciate it, thanks! I think it's real nice.

Ha! the place helped a lot, i bed if i was back in there at this time of the year (winter) would be full of snow Lots of snow! but am not there so i cant grab nice pics for my album, and for you guys. I like the contrasts between the "hot" colors in the earth and the "cold" colors in the sky. Except the 2 or 3 small areas with lost highlight details in the clouds, I find this is an excellent shot. But excuse my question: is the horizon in the other side of the lake, skewed. Taking the picture from the level of the water means that the other coast in the distance must be absolutely horizontal and not descending. Is it just me, how things this is a bit bizarre? I don't know...

ok, am not a pro photographer, at the time when i took this pic i didn't had a camera bubble level, but if you would like to have a look at this link: http://joelantunes.com.sapo.pt/MYSPACE/map.jpg
where the arrow is, is where my camera was located, as you can see ''the lake is not very regular'' so i couldn't make it very straight, but i tried my best! thanks

Thank you for your answer. I have seen the map (nice place btw) but i think that the irregularity of the lake is irrelevant. When you are at the level of the sea or any lake, the distant coasts (regular or not) seem absolutely horizontal. Always. Law of perspective. There is no need to have a bubble to achieve the perfect horizon, though. Straightening in photoshop could do the job. Except if you mean you never crop in photoshop, by conviction. In that case forget what I have said. Thank you again for this nice picture.
