Man Looking To The Sea, Brighton, UK
By Joel Antunes
February 19th, 2008
Funny, i went to Brighton, on this random sunny day, saw this man and he caught my eye. I quickly grabbed my camera and took this shot. I would like to say thanks to the man standing if he would ever see this pic, we love Brighton! After some research (and inspiration and time) i managed to make a nice B&W pic that i like, hope u like it too!

very cool photo. I like the difference between the smoothness of the water and rough land. I just feel that the contrast is too high making the rocks and pathway too distracting to the rest of the photo. It draws your attention to the ground when the main focus should be on man in the center. Other wise a great shot.

hey mr! thanks for the comment, i think u are right about it, i still like the high contrast, but for me, i captured a moment, a moment that only maybe a few people captured, and i love that, and was in Brighton!
About the Ground is not a smooth ground, and sun was no therefore more shadows.

REPENT_OF_SIN it does was my first view of brighton, and it was a good feeling of capturing it, I still wander what was that man looking into.

I like how its symmetrical and not symmetrical at the same time, since the water is closer on one side. Really good shot Mr. Antunes.

@Joel Antunes
When one looks into infinity one looks into eternity and sees oneself as he is. Some say it's a prayer or a talk with God. That is how we first encounter God through observing his creation--the more we observe it the more we understand the vanity of our thoughts and the quieter our thoughts become the more of what we see disappears before our eyes and the more we see God until there is a quiet assurance that we are where God is. As you say, you've good "good feeling" capturing that photograph--that is what I am talking about. The less the thoughts being reflected from off of God the more we appreciate who we are and where we are...a little bit of a 'slippery slope' type of mentality but it gets to the root of the issue.

Very nice shot!
You did a little Photoshop to give this picture a little "sunset" in the middle? Brighton is on the southern coast of England, and the shadow of the pathway is to the left (as you said, the sun was low)?

Beautiful photo.
I live in Rottingdean, Brighton where this photo was taken! I know it's difficult to see but I'm pretty sure that the guy is my good friend Rafael. Did you see the person a little closer? Was he Black or white? Could you email me (or post somewhere) a colour closeup to see if I recognise his clothing?
Anyway, I was immediately attracted to the symbolism of the photo and, if it is who I think it is, is also very symbolic of the man himself. He's a very deep thinker, extremely artistic, (woodwork, sculpture, drawing), member of a local salsa band and feels most at home when surrounded by nature or walking along the beach at midnight.
Best regards,
Martin.

do you have a colour copy of this photo?
If so, could you cut out just the man and post it online?
Then I'd be able to see whether or not it's me ;-)
