Tomahawk's Cabin

September 5th, 2008

I decided to submit something different than what you normally see on IFL. This was taken in an old cabin down the road from my place. The owner no longer lives there but still maintains the property. I normally don't go this far with HDR processing but for these particular subject matter, it works great. Also looks great on my desktop. This HDR is made from 4 exposures. Canon 40D/10-22mm @ 10mm.

Awesome shot!! The colours and tones are amazing. Only thing is my icons get lost with all the details of the cabin, but I think i can live with that :)

I have to say I really love this shot. I like the colors and all the clutter makes you want to keep looking for new things you didn't see before.
The only thing is its a way to busy to be a wallpaper in my opinion, unless your someone who doesn't put many icons on your desktop. I could never use it since I always have at least 15 on mine. And its a shame too cause the picture is awesome.

I like the subject of the picture, although there's a little too much HDR for my taste. I don't mean that as an insult, because it's an excellent picture, but I would've preferred it a little less vivid...maybe even a bit washed out? Just my two cents' worth.

Great picture! I love it. The detail is amazing. It makes the picture very interesting to look at. All the cluttered visual elements reminds me of some abstact art painting. Very nice!

Oh by the way. Some of you are saying that you'll lose your icons amongst all the clutter if you make this as a wallpaper. I have the solution! I'm using an icon dock for Vista - like the one that OS X uses. There you can set the docklet backgound opacity, so that the icons can be seen clearly - no matter what wallpaper you use.

Thank you everyone for the comments. I agree on the business/icon issue. Here is what I do. I crop a little off the top and bottom. This leaves 2 black areas above and below the image to put icons. I have dual 19" LCDs and I use this image with another interior shot I took. To view more images from Tomahawk's cabin, go here:

This totally looks like one of those "hidden objects" games the kids like to play nowadays.

Really like the picture and at first didn't think it would be a great desktop till I actually put it on my desktop. Wow! I find myself all the time now, especially in class, just staring at the wallpaper looking to see if I can find something new in the picture and I usually do. Outstanding job!

It's wallpapers like this that make me glad that I decided to remove all the icons from my desktop. Why? Because my collection wouldn't be complete without this and others. So, bye-bye icons and hello beautiful pieces of art for my Wallpaper Master rotation!

I took a closer look today (for I've had it since you submitted it), and I was disappointed to find some blur on the bottom right. But y'know what? I don't care. lol :) This is great work!

Oh, haven't seen anything like this. Very cool and abstract shot, can compare it with a painting maybe, bit unrealistic. Great!

I've been using this as my wallpaper for a while now, and i love this photo. I do agree with a few people about making it harder to see the my icons, but if I have to choose between being able to see my icons easily or this wallpaper, this wallpaper will win every time!
