Hecla Island Sunset

September 14th, 2008

This summer I had the chance to visit Hecla Island Campground in Manitoba. It was my first time and I was exited to get some sunset shots. I took quite a few that can be seen on my website. This one is one of 3 of my favourites. I used a 4 stop ND filter to help smooth out the waves. I could have spent many hours there but had to get back to my friends and fun.

Outstanding wallpaper TheReal7. I like so much your other works, mostly the ones which you apply the HDR feature. Your photos sound so good to me and to my HD display, thanks.

Dear everyone, I am not a photographer, but simply a person who appreciates fine artistry and composition. Though this is my first time contributing anything to this remarkable website, I have always felt privileged to hear the praise, constructive critiques, and general comments from those whose skill I have come to admire greatly. For the several months where comments were disabled, however, this site lost most of that value I had appreciated so much. The rating system is a tool, and despite the way it has been abused by some, I'm sure everyone can agree that this bickering among a few individuals is no reason to risk sacrificing such an important feature of this site again.

To those (almost everyone) who actively and honestly use the comments feature, I and the rest of the "silent majority" thank you continually for your input! Keep up the great work!

Your work never ceases to amaze me, and this is no exception. I love the details and the colors and the softness of the water. You are by far my favorite artist on this website :D

I love how the water almost looks like a vapor instead; or even ice! Not only that, but this is just yet another beautiful addition to the rest of the art on here. I think I have all of your submissions in Wallpaper Master!

Thank you all very much for the comments. I am glad you like this photo and I am glad it turned out. I was very skeptical that any of the shots I took would be worthy of sharing.

For anyone looking for the rest of the photos from Hecla Island on my site, here is a direct link to the article:

When I was a little kid, I went with my parents on a trip to Hecla Island for a day. There was a ferry to take the cars over to the island in those days and what I most remember was seemingly millions of frogs all over the bright white gravel road.

Although I never went back to Hecla Island or Manitoba again I remember later being told that the ferry service had been canceled and replaced with a causeway.

I wonder if the old concrete in the picture was from the ferry terminus on the island from say 55 years ago. Moreover what is the white thing back in the concrete blocks? A plastic grocery bag?

I love this shot, how ever look closely in the center of the pic. Just at the base of the skinny tree there is what appears to be a white garbage bag or piece of trash. It isn't snow or a rock. Sorry to have to point this out. I have this pic as my desktop wallpaper, it is stunning.

RG2K and VC, you're the first to point that out. It wasn't until LONG after I submitted this photo that I spotted that bag.

Here is an edited version with the "garbage bag" removed. Even editing it was tough to tell if it actually is a garbage bag.

Came to this site looking for desktop backgrounds, this was among my favorites. It looks very much like a place I swim every summer here in Burlington VT, the resemblance is great. Anyways, amazing piece here, thanks for sharing.
