I have to say this is a very mystical photograph. I love how the small sunshaft is illuminating the dark ancient cave within - giving the picture a very varm, yet desolate glow. The photo predominately has only one color, that of the red rocks. I like that. It gives this picture a simple, yet stylish aura.

I can't imagine how it must have felt to be there. It must have been truly wonderful.

To boldly go ... What a stunning shot! Did you happen upon it or were you aware of a special time of day when this event occurs? The shaft looks like a knife cutting the ground with deadly precision. Alternatively, if you imagine it correctly, the light looks as if it is emanating from the ground and shooting upwards...somewhat like a light eruption. Great work.

Good eye Sryche, but it is a similar image and not the exact one. I am sure this image has been captured many times by many photogs that have visited this area. I know I'd love to have the opportunity to visit there.

this is a short short guided hike in a slot canyon near lake powell in arizona and is scene only on guided tours from the local native american reservation. and they tell you the exact time of day that the sun shaft is visable in the slot canyon. this particular photo is, i believe, from the south antelope canyon. North antelope canyon is also amazing and has a longer hike through the narrow slots.

Now - that's what i call a golden shot!

This is wonderful. I've seen the Peter Lik photo you're talking about and it is very similar, but not the same. If you haven't heard of him check him out, his work is simply amazing. I have a calander of his stuff in my kitchen :).

Really nice. This is one of my favorite submissions on the site. I especially like the cross-bedding in the walls mixing with the colors of the beam.

Hi Sryche! Good eye, but that's not the same shot. But it does look like it might be the same location. However, I'm not so sure about that either. Look closely, and you'll see many differences. But still... what a beautiful scene.

If you look at Peter Lik's 35mm shot of this location it's called 'Ghost', because the shaft of light actually looks like a spirit with a vaguely human form. Unbelievably good because of that detail - especially in a 'mystical' place like ths. Incidentally, If you watch the video of him being interviewed you wonder why they got these two brash jerks to do it. The woman's not even listening to him and asks him if it's a real photo! Anyway, this is a great shot, jtrott.

Hats off...the picture took me back many year and brought forth memories of my visit while walking the canyons of Bryce Canyon National Park.

I saw the original one in the gallery he owns in lincoln road miami. Check it out is awesome. Also you should know he uses film no digital cameras, so no photoshop! Just the right frame at the right time.

uauy, I agree, you *should* be sorry: accusing someone in a public forum of stealing another photographer's work is pretty serious business. It seems that you're relying on your memory instead of following your own advice to go to Peter Lik's website and look at the "Ghost" photo:

All it takes is a brief comparison of "Ghost" and the "Cavern" photo uploaded here to see that they are *not* the same. Hopefully you'll be more careful about this kind of thing in the future.

People this is not a hard photo to take. It is not a fake. Anyone with a camera and tripod can take a photo like this just google "Upper Antelope Canyon light shaft" and you will get hundreds of photos. Even I myself have taken a photo of this place with just my point and shoot canon A540.

Last time I was at Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon was open to the public before the Navajo nation made a tourist attraction out of it that has been so long ago.

We used to be able to go anywhere out there and now they have most of it blocked from public view. (or so I hear)

Its still an "Out Of This World" Place to visit if you can.
