The Bay Bridge by Night
By MattGranz
December 19th, 2008
The San Francisco skyline gleaming at 12:30 AM from underneath the Bay Bridge in the cold of December. The blurred light on the bay is a tugboat.

Very cool. I always love the shots that include water and have it smooth like this. Not being even a rookie at photography, how do you do that?

@ Trout: Photographs that have that smooth water effect are usally the result of a slow shutter speed(long exposure). Very simple to do but very hard to get good exposure.
Nice job on this one however the tugboat kinda distracts me. Overall I like it but maybe cloning out the tugboat would make it better IMO.

Wonderful shot! For me their is always something special about a bridge and city light at night in the back ground that make me dream about sitting on the shore line, next to a warm fire and listening to the sounds of cars crossing the bridge in the distance; the splash of small waves breaking the shore line, and chill air that blows. Aaaaahhhhh what a feeling!

How many ways can you say, "Yum?" Pardon my use of mathematical parlance, but I love the way the bridge approaches the left side of the frame asymptotically.

Beautiful photo. Driven that a million times. Best Bay Bridge story- I left the cell phone on the roof of the car @ a garage in SF. Going over the bridge @ 50mph, people are pointing at the roof...'cause the phone is STILL THERE. Love those rubberized carry cases.

Thanks. The only thing that bothers me a little is that the horizon line is on a slight angle. Otherwise it's great.

Whoa. I really love these kinds of shots. It's so hard to stop looking. Now, I usually don't wallpaper shots of man-made things just cuz I made it a rule for some reason, but this one is just such a pleasure to look at. It's shots like this that made me become a member a month or two ago so that I could comment and give the artist more words of much appreciation for their work! This is my 131st wallpaper in Wallpaper Master. :)

Nice photo. Was kinda expecting to see a little black figure falling from the bridge in the distance. But otherwise good shot.

Since taking this shot in December there have been a slew of local photographers braving the possible troubles that can happen and they've all come away with shots that are nothing short of breathtaking. I tried to get back there recently for a sunset shot and was chased away by the coast guard... it is still a risky shot.
