The Salt Desert "Salar The Uyun" in Bolivia

This is a beautiful picture taken by NIR, a good friend of mine. I made some edits on it to make it perfect. It looks like is a lake but isn't!

Wait. So that's NOT water on each side? Unreal. Oh, and great shot too.

Went a did a little research. It's a shallow layer of water on top of the salt that makes it reflect like that. Who knew?

Almost two days, and I'm the only comment on here? How'd that happen? Not to mention the lopsided rating. 5 and 8, really? But I'll take it.

I want love to visit this place one day. I agree with tle042. I love everything about this photo but the vehicle. Would be an easy edit to remove though.

I'll give you +1 for the research, trout :)
It looks like the quotes in the title (before they were removed) were barfing some browsers when they tried to post comments - thus, the lack of comments earlier - That's my guess anyway.

Thanks to the vehicle being in the shot, there is absolutely no question as to the actual scale/size of everything. Granted, you have those little rocks and stones, but still. This may be just a plain shot, but I think it is absolutely perfect the way it is.

I really like the reflection off the water as a result of the sun setting and it's effect on the cloud formation. Nice shot and thanks for sharing. :D

I like the car. As Tim H said, it gives a sense of scale and the speck of bright red adds considerably to the composition. There is a place for landscapes reduced to abstract forms with no hint of a human presence, as InterfaceLIFT seems to prefer, but this one first draws you in with its grand forms and then reminds you that humans are in and relate to the land.
