Canal Cottage
By Joel Antunes
January 13th, 2009
Coulon, France a small town full of canals. I headed down on my last day in France. It was raining all day but i decided to head out. I waited for a couple of hours at this location until the Sun decided to break through the clouds and it stopped raining. I had a chance to take a few shots and then it started to rain again. I had a bit of trouble with the cottage owner who didn't seem very happy to seeing me taking pictures of his property, but we got along in the end...

It's a beautiful photo, but the colors are a little too bright for my taste. It almost hurts my eyes, lol.

Ha, I knew this was Joel before even looking at his name! Nice job, very reminiscent of your fantastic "Leeds Castle Grounds" photo. Keep these coming, the composition and clarity are great.

Side note: any of you who own an iPhone noticed that these pics from IFL that have awesome quality on your desktop, look dismal on the iPhone? Like all the rich detail is gone? Anyone have a clue as to why?

Joel, Joel, Joel another classic photo. The reflection off the water, the dark cloud in the back of the house and the sharp image of the sun lighting up the house is well timed. Well worth the download!
Please keep them coming!!!

My god, I absolutely love it! These colours, the perfect scenery, awesome light and then so perfectly crisp! What a great job! Instant fave!

This is an example of when photography elicits more than an audible "wow" but rather a breathless "ohhh" as it strikes an internal chord.

Joel, i absolutely love all of your works and this is just so beautiful! I know you said it's from France but this rather reminds me of Tuscany, Italy. Anyways, all of your pictures are of stunning quality so i say: Keep it up!

Thanks guys for the advice and thoughts on the iPhone/wallpaper thing. As to your remarks Joel, I've tried both ways. The only one to look decent (and it actually worked perfectly for the iPhone's screen) was Paul Marshall's "Red Sensation". Otherwise, whether dl'ed from the pc or phone, they still lose their luster. And to your thoughts, se7en, I've been just dl'ing the 320x480. I think I may try cropping my own and seeing how that turns out. It's frustrating because these pics, as good as they are, should just pop off that screen, especially considering how good movies like The Dark Knight looks on there.

And by the way Joel, have you submitted your picture entitled "River Thames"? If you haven't, please do so. And if you have, that'd be another great, IFL.

I think someone above said the light hurt their eyes. But this is how it is when the sun shines through a black sky. As a gardener, it's one of my favourite light scenarios because it literally lights up plants in a very unique way, showing the detail and colour very vibrantly and in an almost surreal way. I always pop out and look at my plants if we're lucky enough to get the light like this. Gorgeous. And I wish I had the skill to capture it. By the way, my husband is French and he wants to move to France. (We live in the English countryside). I am getting less and less reluctant as I see these pictures... :-)

Thanks for the link, Joel. I'm really enjoying going through the beautiful photos. Yes, it's great to have nature all around you. I'm always rushing out with my camera to take pictures but it's really old now ( Canon EOS D30) and I'd like a new one. I am saving my pennies and trying to learn more about photography in the meantime.
