River Thames, London, UK

January 15th, 2009

I was taking this lovely picture when i was approached by 2 police officers and the shot was over.... this picture shows the contrast between the lights of the building and the darkness of the river Thames, i used a Lee filter over the sky to keep sky detail. Police stopped futher action!

If it happens again, then tell them about IFL. :) Anyway, this is excellent. I love the clarity, the detail and the colors. It's just really awesome.

Nice picture but it has one major problem - the clock on Big Ben has been lost! I'd love to see this picture either shot again or blended with another so that we can see the clock detail.

The passing busses really capture London nicely even though you can't actually see them.

Wow, that was a really fast response. Thanks Joel, and IFL.

I don't know why the police stopped you, there is almost always someone on Westminster bridge taking pictures of big ben. Nice shot, though.

Well, if nobody else is going to sacrifice themselves... I don't like it. Feels like I'm looking at a photo of detailed railing with Big Ben in the background. I usually like interesting angles, but the tilt and framing here looks amateurish. I just don't see a complete composition. I'm a fan of Joel, but I'm not getting the hype. (Bracing for red thumbs.)

I love your artwork. This one is now one of my favorites. Do you have any cityscapes of France?

@ Brizkit

Seriously dude i've been coming here for years now and every good picture you're there making negative comments. Have you ever said anything positive about anyone's work?

I'm sorry to lash out but really this is getting out of hand now, if you hate everything here why do you stay? I mean these are desktop wallpapers, just something pretty to put on your pc right? This isn't the f***ing Tate for christ's sake! Who do you think you are to tear apart everyone else's work?

And I'd like to call you out right here and now and say that i'd like you to produce some work. If you feel your masterful grasp of all that could be considered "a desktop wallpaper" is so stunningly perfect then show us the incredible miracle that your work must be for you to hold such a high opinion of yourself. Right now.

Until you do maybe you should keep your hate to yourself?

Great looking Big Ben & clean pavement. The high light trails must have been that of a double decker bus, I guess.

Very nice..Sometimes the massive amount of detail can detract from a picture, but this works just fine :)

Hey,

Would someone be amazing and take photos of parts of Manchester City Centre (UK) blended together? I come from Manchester and live there most weekends, however since leaving for Uni i find myself missing such an amazing city, could someone give me a nice desktop picture so when i use my laptop i'm not so home sick? The google searchs arn't very good!

Thanks!

This picture brings back vivid memories of my home town. I used to either walk or drive over this bridge every day to my home in Soho, and I worked opposite the Houses of Parliament for a while... I once actually got to go inside to one of the private rooms for drinks. It's an amazing place. I should have got my camera out inside there! :-) Great to see it given a such an interesting perspective. Thanks! Not so great about the police... Once they tried to arrest me at 3 am when I was moving to a new flat and I had the car packed with clothes and my ironing board was down the side of the seat. They accused me of having committed a burglary. I said "OK, you've got me! It's true, I am running an illegal second-hand ironing board ring. Take me away!". They were not amused but I got away with it because I am a girl, perhaps.Having said that, on another occasion I ran out of petrol and the officers drove off and filled up a jerry can for me. I suppose, just like there are good and bad desktops, there are nasty and nice bobbies!

somehow, i never get bored of this one. everything seems so sharp and clean, and the similar colors make it easy to look at. concerning the negative comments on that angle, I like it. it makes me feel like a little animal and helps me see how small this world really is. thanks!

You still have the legal right to take photographs in a public place in the UK. People need to know their rights and stand their ground and refuse to comply with the police.
