Taken on my recent trip to the South Island, New Zealand. This is the Blue Lake in St Bathans (named for its distinctive blue colour caused by the minerals in the water). It was man-made by miners digging away at a 120m hill until all that was left was a 68m deep pit. When the mining stopped, the hole filled with water forming the lake. This is a single exposure, taken using a 2-stop graduated ND filter. Very little post-processing here, this was exactly how it appeared that morning.

As I saw the thumbnail something told me that this was Chris Gin's photo..and I was right!I love blue color, it's my favourite, and this pic is full of it, New Zaeland is full of it!I would like to live there and see with my eyes all this nature masterpieces! thanks again for sharing it!

Thanks everyone. For those of you who do visit NZ (or anywhere I guess), make sure you're up early each morning for the golden hour. This photo was taken just after sunrise. 30 minutes later the light was so different and the place did not look as good, yet that's when the tourists started turning up.
