Usually I don't comment on the wallpapers that I see on this site. However, this particular wallpaper stood out to me. It seems to me that most of the wallpapers posted on this site possess some aesthetic quality of one kind or another. Perhaps not all of them appeal to every viewer--indeed, I won't use every single one, because many of them just don't appeal as strongly to my particular taste--but almost all engage the viewer artistically in some way, individual preferences aside. This wallpaper strikes me as inconsistent with that theme, which is why I felt compelled to comment. I don't believe that this work carries much significant inherent artistic merit. Yes, there's some splashes of color (that for some reason remind me of a map of the world), but the primary purpose appears to be to convey the message that Macs are better than PCs. I don't own a Mac, but I don't particularly care what kind of operating system the next person uses or doesn't use. It appears to me to largely be a function of personal preference. I suppose that's why it bothers me that, apparently, other people do care enough about a triviality such as one's choice in operating systems to design a thinly veiled "go team" wallpaper and to have it appear on this site. It would strike me as odd to see a "Steelers Rule" wallpaper on this site, and that's really all this amounts to. It's a simple slogan promoting a particular taste: the type of product, whether a sports team, a type of operating system, or something else entirely, does not matter, nor does the personal preference of the creator or viewer. I'm used to seeing original, creatively designed works on this site that evoke a response to their aesthetic qualities, which is why I was genuinely puzzled when I saw this relatively more uncomplicated and simplistic image.

Look, it's pretty simple folks: Macs and PCs both have their strong and weak points. I won't get into them, because we ALL know them. Point is, there are different types of people that likes different things in their computer experience. Macs cater to some of them, PCs cater to others. PCs have a greater market-share because well, let's face it, they pulled a fast on on Apple and Mr. Gates did a better job marketing them. Microsoft also doesn't make the only type of computer with their OS, which helps drastically, as does the fact that Mac computers were not available in mainstream consumer stores (a la Best Buy, Circuit City) until recent years (hence the jump in Apple's market-share, which is still slowly growing).

I have two older PCs, and one Mac. I use my Mac more often, because I prefer its simplicity in its aesthetics and operation. But the PCs still have their uses. Don't bag on this particular person for displaying their affection for their computer. People don't do it for validation, they don't do it for insecurity reasons, they do it because they simply like the operating system/computer. It's the same reason people keep pictures of their kids in their wallet, or wear t-shirts with their favorite band on it. It sparks conversation; conversation(s) which may inspire someone else to look into that product (in this case, Macs). Fact is most average folk don't even know what a Mac computer looks like or how it works, because they're subject to PCs with Windows by default. And let's face it, nobody needs a Window > Mac = true wallpaper (by the way, the syntax is correct in over a dozen programming languages; whoever corrected it was obviously not a programmer because "==" is usually used to DEFINE a variable, not to display the comparison of two). But if someone decided to make one, more power to them. Fact is, does it affect you? No? Then... who really cares?

Argh, let's not get into a platform war here. Mac vs PC is irrelevant - like JL says, it's a simple slogan promoting a particular taste and it would be just as odd for IFL to have a wallpaper with Canon vs Nikon, Windows vs Linux, etc etc.

There has to be more than one person who approves the wallpapers at Interfacelift. This is the only reason I can think of as to why this was approved to be on here, days after Oirase Gorge was approved. I think the Interfacelift staff could use a "cropping".

This is so pitiful. I don't think I've ever met a more juvenile, more pathetic, lower self esteem bunch of fanboys in my life. Apples are great computers for sure, but they just don't have the market ( the popular consumer votes)and for some reason the PC guys just seem to use what they have and let the Apple losers rant all they want. One day these 30 something momma's boys/girls will grow up and realize doing all this was such a childish thing. Not to bite the hand that feeds us, but I think if you wanted to extend a tip of the hat to WWDC and Mac users in general, a statement such as "I love my Mac," would be less provocative than the one used by @d2lil. I use both platforms and recommend them to people accordingly to their needs

Even so, just to let you know my point of view, individuals who display bumper stickers such as "I Love My Russian Wolfhound or "Paperhangers Do It Standing on a Ladder." drive me nuts. I think that etiquette suggests that people shouldn't volunteer their taste unless asked.

I am fluent in both PC's and Mac, I am also a computer technician and a Graphic Designer, I use both and I agree hands down with out a doubt that the subject of this wallpaper is 110% accurate! Mac IS the dominant operating system. The ONLY thing PC has over Mac is gaming...end of story hahaha!!

I didn't not make this wallpaper to offend the PC users of the world. I simply made this to voice my own PERSONAL opinion of which computer I find superior. I am an IT professional and have to use a PC at work but at home and when it comes to my own personal money, I am all Mac. I use a Mac because over the years of using both PCs and Macs, the Mac has always been better in every application that I have ever needed. I apologize to those of you who do not think this is a worthy "work of art" to have been accepted by this site. The fact is...it was accepted and that is that. Again, I am not trying to attack people who favor the PC. This is something that I believe is true and if you don't agree then I am sorry you feel that way. Art was never meant to please everyone and I never said this was difficult to create nor did I claim to be an excellent artist.

While I personally agree with the statement of the submission, I too feel it is unnecessary, WWDC or not. I work hard at my art, and am more interested in selling prints than being featured here, but that doesn't stop me from submitting. I must say it is a little discouraging to come here day after day to see varying degrees of professionalism and be ignored, but if IFL doesn't think my submissions will be well received, that's fine. I personally feel that submissions like this lack the level of professional quality that submissions by artists like Joel, Chris Gin and SinaiB's latest have.

From a (this) graphic designer's perspective, this just doesn't hold much aesthetic value. A couple brush splatter Photoshop brushes in a few colors with grunge text just doesn't hold a lot of artistic weight in my view. The color choices are nice, but I'd like to see more depth to the piece. Work on layering things, experiment with blend modes. And please, don't use fonts with those insufferable filled in holes in the letters. I love the grunge style, but filled in fonts like that are highly distracting to my admittedly font-snobbish eye.

This logic is flawed: Mac > PC = TRUE
This states that PC is true (whatever that means) and that Mac is greater than PC which is TRUE (not sure what is greater than TRUE). What sort of respectable computer savvy user would place such failed logic on their desktop?

The more correct statement would be:

Therefore whether or not a PC is better is now up for interpretation.

@everyone, This is as pointless as arguing if Honda is better than Toyota it's just a computer. People spend money on things they like and that is everyone's right so if I like my PC and want to show others my enthusiasm for it and if art is my outlet for that then what d2lil has done is what you get. I am a diehard PC user, it's my job as a network administrator to work on computers. That also includes the Mac's we have. While I am not as familiar with a Mac as I am with a PC I don't see anything wrong with people owning or using them. Think of it this way if you are a lefty would you buy right hand scissors? Some things just fit other people better. As for the price of the two computers. PC's have the advantage because mainly you can go out and buy some $30 components slap on some Windows / Linux and be on your way. For Mac's you pay a bit more of a premium for hardware that is specifically meant to run that OS. This is what gives Mac the ability to say they are stable more often than a PC. Now put down the pitchforks, I know a PC is just as stable as a Mac but understand Mac users that Windows as an OS has to contend with many types of hardware and drivers written by third party companies with no real way to validate the integrity of their coding. So for a Mac user to say PC is not as good as a Mac well how do you mean this? Not as good for you? ok sure I will accept that, or do you mean not as good in hardware? Well that would depend If I purchase a Core 2 Duo, RAM, and basically the same components as a Mac what difference do we have? Ok so the OS well a Mac as I said before is made to use a more select set of hardware then a PC so sure your typical Mac would run smoother then someone like me who parts together a system. Then again I can run just about any hardware I choose. So in closing is a Mac better then a PC sure why not? Is a PC better then a Mac yea I agree with that as well. It is whatever works best for you. So next time you hear / see someone say Mac is better than PC don't get mad at them just understand that is what they chose to use if they are happy with it good for them.

First and foremost, this is a work of art as equally deserving of as much respect as anything else on this site, it's not a competition.

Now for some logic... My Mac is running Leopard, XP, Vista, and 4 versions of linux at the same time. Within that, I'm running a video wallpaper (courtesy of Living Desktop) in HiDef, and I've been doing video editing in the process.

I've yet to see a PC for $1000 that hasn't blown up trying to keep up with such a task without major upgrades.

Computers, like anything, are a preference. I prefer my Mac.

I'm not surprised this wallpaper got over 70 comments on it's first day. I'm also not surprised that very few of the comments were about the actual piece. I am surprised that IFL allowed this in, as many of the previous commenters have said.I agree with Dhaman in that it is too macabre to work on a Mac. I think that IFL should either remove this picture or remove the comment section.

Regardless of whether you think this is art, do you really believe removing the pic (i.e. censoring) is appropriate? I believe most people here would find that idea slightly oppressive. Plus this shouldn't be a debate, when it comes to computers. Im a PC fan. and I mostly use my Playstation 3 for my internet needs. Now if you wanna debate on which is better between Xbox & PS3 we know by fact that PS3 Is better. but there's not enough fact to real say whats better between Mac Or PC. Most people have been using PC's since they became computer illiterate an thats all they know, so they support it like a family member. but some people do research and come to a stalemate. So I say all computers are great some do this some do that.

I have to agree with some posters here... this is an aesthetic embarrassment to self-respecting Mac users. It's not trash, it's just a very confused image. The theme belongs on MTV or in some skateboarding magazine, not on an iMac. Coupled with that antagonistic phrase this is practically an ad for Microsoft.

That said, I'll jump in the computer debate. I don't like the blood sport, but I find the actual discussion to be pretty enjoyable, even if I'm writing into a black hole.

Guys, the "what fits your needs" argument expired about a decade ago. Not just because Macs really can do virtually anything PCs can do, but because of something simpler: Macs have been able to natively run Windows and Linux for years. So, should you find some obscure operation that simply cannot happen in Leopard, it's not a deal breaker.

"Costs more" is also bunk. Mac resale value is exponentially higher than any PC. Your money is not just going toward a "pretty case", as many like to say... It's actually a wise investment. I'll bet many of you don't know how much 5-6 year old Powerbooks can go for on eBay. Yes, some 17" models are inching close to $1k. Show me a 2003 laptop that can fetch that much. Better yet, explain why resale value doesn't matter. Considering only the upfront cost is almost childish.

Even barring that, if you want to go head-to-head with raw components, you're not allowed to leave things out like the LED / S-IPS panel, webcam, mouse / keyboard, seamless industrial design, etc, etc... and yes, total specs -- add it ALL up: screen size, processing power, RAM, HD, video, ports, software, build quality, etc, etc. Yes, all this stuff is worth money. You'd be surprised how the pound for pound price is sometimes LESS than off-the-shelf PCs. Of course, that leaves out the undeniably more stable and powerful (and more attractive) OS in Mac that has bested its competitors on virtually every front since 10.2. Except perhaps gaming -- is that the crux? (But wait, Mac runs Windows...)

The most interesting part of this whole thing is that Mac still has only 9% market share. Graph that. Microsoft retains 90%. Yet some here are likening Apple to Big Brother or some viral religion. You can't be serious? Do you want me to pull some quick stats on the global believer / atheist ratio? It might threaten your premise.

Really, I think the PC ammo is gone. Now you guys are just going ad hominem. Which I'll never understand, because there is a fantastic experience in Mac and you're avoiding it because of some high school aversion to iPod commercials and coffee shop Macbooks. Did you ever stop to think that maybe there IS something behind the hype? Have you ever used Logic? Safari? Finder? Sometimes a popular thing is good for a reason. Criticisms of commercial-fanaticism aside, the wallpaper is a terrible piece. Fail. The quality of the wallpapers has been wildly fluctuating on this site.

Centarui, just to show you how stupid this whole argument is. The only Mac available that comes close to having as good of hardware specs is the Mac pro, and too configure it at close to the same level would cost about $3,700.

That is over TWICE the cost of what I built my PC for. So, hey, if you know nothing about computers and make a ton of money, feel free to buy a Mac and love it! But please, don't try to tell me it is better than a PC...

ArmoredCavalry; Take a screen shot of CPU ID or some other bit of software showing me that your system has Xeon CPUs. Also, please feel free to post another shot of a NewEgg shopping cart filled with as-comparable-as-possible components for a PC to rival the Mac Pro. Don't forget a Vista Ultimate and software equal to what Apple installs by default, or the Xeon CPUs and a comparable motherboard.

I have to disagree with the person who said this isn't a competition. Of course this is. We all submit things and they get judged. Look up the definition.

Statements made about this piece lacking a certain levels of quality, are right on. By no means am I saying you can't make something beautiful with even a single typeface but this is literally a grunge font and a couple of brush strokes attached to failed logic. The piece itself seems to voice the opinion that MAC is better then WINDOWS but completely disregards MACS brand appeal.

I'm sure a lot of us have submitted work that has much more thought and artistic value as this and have been shot down and that's why I think this piece got so many comments.

I come here daily to see literally the best collection of hi-resolution wallpapers on the internet and for something like this to make it to the front page blew my mind.

FYI: I use a MAC all day as a graphic designer then come home to a Windows based PC and I don't prefer either. They are both good for different things. Why can't people see the merit in the fact that we have choices.

I agree with David. I seriously think the whole point was to cause a spark and generate attention. Well, s/he is getting it.

I also would like to mention, after reading many comments, that I am tired of the whole PC vs. MAC thing. It should be "Mac vs. Microsoft," not PC. A PC custom built with a Linux/Unix operating system is arguably superior to both in many ways...and it's still a PC.

Regardless of the cross-platform contention, that is a very poor wallpaper image.

Hahahaha I love that people are mentioning resale values. We don't need to sell PC's, because we actually CAN UPGRADE THEM. Good luck doing that on a Mac.....

I don't need to add to whats been said about the mac/pc debate but I'll say this; success on IFL is basically measured by the favorites to comments ratio. For example. 10 favs to one comment is a successful ratio. 10 comments to 1 fav is a failing ratio. I think the numbers on this WP prove that.

I'll also add that I was disappointed to see such a WP posted on here. This isn't the place for this kind of WP IMO. On a mac fanboy site maybe but not here. I have lost a little confidence in IFL for posting this one. Sorry.

Even if i wanted a Mac I could never justify paying twice as much for the same computer. (Even if it does match my hybrid car that is covered in Obama bumper stickers, and makes me feel like I fit in when I'm hanging out at Starbucks)

Just an observation.

As far as the fanboyism: To each his own. My personal opinion is that Macs are grossly overpriced. Not to mention that for each and every application on a mac, you can find about a hundred more on windows that do the same exact thing.

I built a pc for $350 about two months ago and I can play Crysis on high at 1920x1080 resolution... haha something that you can't do on ANY mac because these games won't even run on them.

When it's all said and done you're getting twice the power for the same price by going PC.

Just a side note, but the "I'm a Mac" ads crack me up because some of them are straight up lies. There's a reason why Microsoft has the majority of the market share.

It is a simple wallpaper that has text in a format that you see all the time due to the internet and texting. I do not understand how it is so "mean".

@Centarui, the Xeon offered by Mac is simply the server version of the core i7 920. It is designed for server application, not home users. No one buys a mac to be a server that I know of. The only reason it is offered is because Mac can make even more money off of people who think that they are getting some huge performance increase by getting a Xeon (a.k.a. you). Look at some benchmarks between Xeons and core i7's sometime, and decide if it is worth a 400% increase in price.

Even WITH the exact same Xeon CPU, to build the equivalent of a $3,800 Mac Pro on Newegg would cost less than $1,900.

The same thing happens with high end pre-built PC's (huge price mark-ups). A wallpaper saying "Alienware>Prebuilt=true" would be just as stupid...

And beizbu, I haven't restarted my THREE AND A HALF YEAR OLD PC in A MONTH. It's a prebuilt one, not a custom built one.

Overall, they both have their ups and downs - and I feel like Macs aren't worth the 60%(Macbook)-400% (Mac Pro) premium they put on their stuff. I enjoy OS X, I enjoy working on a Mac (as long as they don't use Mighty Mouse... what an abomination), but I won't pay for one because I can get the ultimate studio PC for a fourth of the price, period. This is a pathetic and foolish post because the statement provokes argument between PC and Mac users. It does not even make sense when you come down to specific details.

I am, and will always be, a PC user who forthrightly believes that Macs are oversized paperweights for several reasons.

Being a Mechanical Engineer, I use programs (Solidworks, Inventor, Pro-E) that are most hardware intensive programs available when designing an assembly of a new car from Infiniti. Macs are looked upon as a joke to the Engineering community.

Every PC has its flaws; it’s just that Macs have more. Viruses, slow processing, etc., cannot be blamed on the computer itself; it has more to do with the user than the computer. PCs are far more superior to that of Macs based on power, affordability, and third-party support.

If this is not enough information to get my point across, then maybe this will help. My brother is a Web Designer for Amazon. Over at Amazon, all they use are PCs running Windows Vista or Xp. Mac, once again, is looked upon as a joke to many different communities.

But colleand, what about everyday users?

This can be simply answered. Spend $1,000 and buy yourself a nice PC running Windows Vista. Don’t even consider a Mac. They look terrible, compute slower than PCs, play games horribly, have bad layouts and interface, have poorly designed components, and are extremely overpriced for an ugly paperweight. What else do you need? A computer that has the small monitor attached to the computer itself so it’s nearly impossible to move around? Great idea, Apple…..

I will give d2lil this; they are good for ONE thing; image creating/editing, which is shown in this overly-simple excuse for a “wallpaper.” It looks like you used a Mac to create that disastrous “wallpaper.” Macs are garbage.

First of all, if you like getting ripped off for upgrading your system, get a mac. Cause i know they charge an insane amount to increase your amount of ram when configuring. Second if you know how to do a lot of system edits and like to do a lot of heavy computing. Macs suck for that. I have a PC that runs XP, Vista, and OSX Leopard (only boot it when my grandmother needs to use the computer) flawlessly. It costed me a total of $1,100. It has superior hardware, both internal and external. Looks much nicer than a Mac, is much more powerful than a Mac, and best of all runs everything perfectly unlike a Mac.

Like previously stated from other users, it is the idiotic user that gets viruses and malware. Don't be foolish to say that Macs are immune to viruses. Even Crapple recommends you use a antivirus program for your Macs. The reason why you switched to a Mac is simple, you were just not the brightest person who allowed himself to get viruses in the first place and blamed the machine, not yourself. OSX is a dumbed down operating system for novice users! Try a decent antivirus software and common sense. I have never gotten a virus, crashed or had a blue screen in Vista. I can't remember the last time it happened in XP. Must of been a few years.

Crapple also has about 8% of the market share, about the same a couple of years ago. Not much growth there as you state. More viruses are made to target the greater market share which is obviously Windows by a huge margin. iPhones were great. I actually had the first gen. I upgraded to a Android platform phone which is slowly creeping up on the smart phone market share. Analysts predict the Android will surpass the iPhone OS in terms of features, performance, and market share very soon.

Macs are PCs. They share the exact same components. They use a Intel processor ffs. You need to boot to Windows if you want to run a game (turns it into a PC!). The only thing that would differentiate the two is the aluminum wraped around it which costs somewhere between $500-$2000 depending on the model of the Mac. Hefty premium for aluminum no? So you bought a underpowered computer with a huge price premium for a shiny case. Don't go around and troll Windows users to justify your stupid purchase. Just make a smarter decision next time. Buy a PC and install OSX if you really want a dumbed down operating system that will limit what you can do. With the money saved, go out on a date for once. Thanks for playing.

@ d2lil: while I appreciate your apology and statement that it's merely an expression of an opinion, your wallpaper doesn't belong here. I come to InterfaceLIFT to peruse the many fantastic artistic wallpapers that transcend personal preference. There have been a couple Apple themed wallpapers here that either featured the logo, or a mac itself, but they stand objectively as works of art. They make no statement and don't have 100+ comments that are irrelevant to the actual wallpaper.

You've stated that this isn't your best work, and I'm sad to hear that. I'm sure many people here who have put in a lot of work in their HDR photographs, or high quality digital artwork don't appreciate it either.

I'm sad to see that this actually became a flame war in the first place. Let's stop this nonsense now, seriously before we all embarrass ourselves.
