Great idea! Layout seems messed up in Firefox though.

now you're talkin! thanks for this, it's a great idea, too bad the pix arent in full size. just for god sake do something about the firefox compatibility. i hate having to start the piece of crap explorer. makes me feel dirty.

regarding this photo: excellent, clean shot with lovely color mix. but god do those feraris look hideous from up close. do they use liquid detergent caps for headlights?

I like the voting idea.

The wallpaper is not interesting at all. I'd much rather see the entire car...

Great idea with the voting and great wallpaper.

Great work with the voting idea...my only quibble is that the pics should be larger. It doesn't seem too bad in Firefox, save for the occasional glitch. I think it would also be cool to see how many users have voted for a picture below it.

Also, do we have a vote limit, or can we safely vote for every image in the gallery? Not that I'd want to, but there are definitely more than 1 pics that deserve posting to front page.

Again, kudos for democratizing Interfacelift!

About the photo, it seems nice, but it's not really my style, sorry.

This really only looks good on a widescreen computer....

@Lord_Illidan,

Thanks for the feedback. I wanted to get this feature out the door ASAP, so there are still a few rough edges and the feature set is limited. This is still under active development. Please submit bug reports and feature suggestions through the "Email Webmaster" link at the bottom of the page.

There will eventually be a FAQ page explaining how the Loupe works in a bit more detail, but to answer your question, there is no limit to the number of images you can cast a vote for. However you only get one vote per image and there is some code behind the scenes that ignores votes that have a high probability of being cast by the same physical person (but with different accounts/browsers/IPs, etc). Obviously this is not a perfect solution but should largely prevent people from gaming the system. It is one of many reasons why the explicit vote count is not currently visible (to prevent people from figuring out elaborate ways of circumventing those basic protections). But like I said, the system will evolve over time, so you may eventually see some form of vote totals as well as other changes based on feature/behavior requests.

Hopefully this feature is a good step in the direction or reducing complaints over which content is or is not selected to be featured on the site. It will evolve over time based on how it is used/abused.

Please keep in mind, that even with democratic voting, not every image selected by every visitor (not even close) and we will work to evolve the feature such that variety is not lost.

I know this picture was voted but what about composition? Do editors of IFL care about such things? Half of the picture is some obscure red car that should be edited out, but, a simpler thing would have been to get closer to the car and to make a closer up shot of the same thing but with 5% or so of the red car in the background--THAT would have made sense. To simplify what I am saying is suppose you imagine you are deleting the red car in your mind from the picture...what is being left?...something you would enjoy looking at for couple of days in a row?...THEN judge if it's a good picture or the one that should be rejected in favor of a better one.

re: new beta voting web page...

GOOD IDEA!

Finally something constructive where babies can vote and make a difference instead of whining about things they can't change.

GOD BLESS YOU!

Burn Baby Burn 2.1 Beta: what are you talking about? I only use Firefox, but I opened the Loupe in IE just to see if I could see what you're talking about. But it gave me no ability to see the full-size versions. It was precisely the same as it is in Firefox (except slower).

Are you able to see the full-size images on The Loupe in IE? I mean, I don't see how that's possible: they are all previews.

So, what are you talking about?

@Tim, the layout was really bad on Firefox before, but has since been fixed.

Excellent idea with The Loupe. As long as everything I vote for gets in. :-)

@Jeff - The Loupe is certainly a good idea: I just hope the community has enough taste to bring to the legitimately good images to the main page. In regards to the images currently on there, have they been edited at all by you/your staff, and will they be edited (tweaking levels etc.) if they are featured?

Very nice shot... Who cares of having the full car when just a detail can tease you? Just by seeing this shot I dream of the rest of the car...
