well let me clarify!- it's about a 15 minute drive to the base of Mt. D, but I can look out and see it!

Funny... I'm about 7 minutes from the base of the mountain myself... in Concord. John-Paul-Jones... what can I say? Thanks! Learning to mountain climb on this rock, would be great! I just stick to the trails these days. Thanks for the kind thoughts all.

Great shot! I'm in Concord myself, and love going up there. I must say, I haven't managed to get a photo anywhere near as good as this one, though. Good job, MattGranz!

Maybe it's just me, but the crispness of the shadow's peak, off near the horizon, looks like it's been photoshopped. If I didn't know better I'd say that shadow extends above the horizon line, up into the sky - a physical impossibility. But maybe I'm just a skeptic. Hey, I'm from Redwood City, I've been to the peak so I know the shadows are haunting.

Batman, I don't blame you for thinking that the shadow might have been photoshopped, but that assumption is not correct. The truth is that I had the moon photoshopped out, it was so small that it was distracting. If I was to photoshop a shadow, I would not have chosen this shape and I would have tried to line it up differently. You are correct however that the shadow is haunting. The park ranger standing behind me, telling me to get off the mountain was sort of haunting me in a completely different way... I lost seven filters up there cause in my haste to keep that ranger happy, I forgot to put them back into my pack... but that shadow is the real deal.
