I missed this on the Loupe, but even though there's a little noise I like it very much! It's so relaxing, and this place looks very calm..where was this taken?

This could have been one of the best but I think the technical flaws drag it down to simply a "ho-hum" image. It has the look of a drastically underexposed image that has been way overcompensated for in Photoshop. There is banding and several types of digital noise that are so distracting that the wonderful subject matter becomes secondary.

Oh come on Sam. Whether I agree with Jeffrey or not, he commented with far more tact than he who's name shall not be spoken. His comment was brutally honest perhaps, but it was never rude.

Now, as for the photo: I see the noise JP mentioned, but I wonder if all the noise isn't intentional. Seems as if evilbright used it to effect a finished product that he had in mind. From the thumbnail I didn't think I would like it; but having applied it, I have to agree completely with lerch's remarks.

This image is reminescent of a japanese painting. I actually quite like the grain, it makes it seem like old book paper. Well done, and a very unique approach.

Thank you trout. I hate to comment if I don't like an image because I really don't want to hurt the photographer's feelings. I know how it feels to have your work torn apart. I also don't want to come off as a jerk. When I saw the thumbnail I was stoked but after downloading I just had to comment. I wouldn't even bother to leave a comment if an image wasn't one that I would have liked had it been better. After all, what's the point of commenting if you simply don't like the image? I really, really, really (really) don't understand why other commenters get so defensive over constructive criticism. People like Burn get off on ripping people's work. It's like a high for them. In this image, looking beyond the overall noise (like it or not), there is a distracting horizontal banding in the sky as well as some strangeness going on in the lower sky at the far left of the image. These effects are indicative of overdoing exposure correction in Photoshop or some other photo tool I really want to like this image. . . REALLY!!

I like this very much. It grabbed my attention. It it different than the stuff you usually see on here which is usually sunsets...ugh, which I am tired of.
Who cares what was done to it in PS. It's different, and I like it! Thank you for sharing.

I would like to see the original photo of this scene before anything was altered. I can only imagine how awesome this looked in person. For me it lost a lot of jaw dropping because it seems (at least to me) a tad bit grainy and blurry from whatever was done to it.

Nice. I actually like the grainy effect, but I agree with Jeffrey Picard about the left-hand banding, would be good to see that fixed

It is in fact Mt. Rainier with the east end of Rife lake in the lower left. Google map it to verify.
Very interesting indeed. The emphasis of this site is impressive in this angle, which makes this single image. Great job!
