Aurora Borealis

January 24th, 2010

The Sun suddenly decided it was time again to throw some decent flares at us after a 2 year long pause. So many nights wasted on aurora-hunting up until this glorious night of spellbinding display of light! Picture was taken very close to my home in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L.

very good picture, the sky is perfect, for a night shot the lower bluriness is very acceptable. 9/10

I voted for this one. It isn't easy to capture aurora borealis due to their ever changing nature. I can't speak to technical things. I only know what I like and I think this photograph is amazing.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

This is simply some stunning work here! For me, the apparent noise is not distracting at all. Everything looks absolutely brilliant!

Thanks for the comments people :) The exposure time is 30 seconds @ f/4. And yes, I should have noise-reductioned it before I posted, this is my first ever interfacelift submission. Although I've been using backgrounds from this place for the past 4-5 years I think.

Look closely. I swear I can see a girls face (nose, left eye and left hairline) in this shot - just above the lighthouse. Just installed it to my Droid, noticed it and got chills.
