Bamboo
May 5th, 2010
Taken in Kyoto, walking through one of many zen gardens surrounding the temples. I knew the light was playing through this bamboo forest and I tried to capture the tall stalks by aiming from low to high, and I like the result!
Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 24-105L zoom lens at 24mm. Developed in Adobe Lightroom beta 3 with adjustments in Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Very nice shot. Makes the bamboos seem monumental and gigantic. Nice balance and a great effect from the bamboos' horizontal lines.... VERY NICE!

Sorry, I don't want to be the fly in the ointment here, but I much prefer the artist's other wallpapers to this one. His other offerings are really outstanding. To my (admittedly newbie) sensibilities, the composition of this photo leaves me less thrilled than other commentators. Too much of the photo is taken up by dirt and roots. Maybe I'm lessed impressed by bamboo as I live in Asia, but please take this as constructive criticism. At least it's not another shot of Manhattan or rocks in the ocean!! :)

Hm. This is a very good image; however, I think that the composition does not lend itself well to being used as a desktop.

I like this picture a whole lot. It doesn't blow me away as much as your other works, but it is still great. I like the idea of the blur that you added to the foreground, but you might want to look into something like Alienskin's 'Bokeh' plugin instead of CS4's blurring filters. It doesn't look right, as the blur doesn't change whatsoever from the immediate foreground to the trunk of the first tree, which has to be at least a few feet away.

Good composition, but the blur on the roots at the bottom left and the grass at the bottom right is too distracting for it to be my new wp. Also the bamboo in the distance is to sharp and pronounced. Otherwise it's a great submission

I really think this is gorgeous, but I wish those roots were in focus. Philippe, do you have alternate shots of this image? This is going on my desktop either way!
