London Eye

January 9th, 2008

This is a picture I took with a Canon 1Ds Mark II with tripod support and remote switch. It was a 1 minute exposure to get the required effect on the water. The scene is of the River Thames in London and features the British Airways London Eye.

Sweet! That's a really nice shot. I think I would have gotten just a little more of the sky above the structure on the left (I'm assuming that's "the eye", but I'm not very familiar with London architecture) either by tilting up a little, or to keep the reflection in the water, backing up or zooming out just a smidge. This would be a great place to use (very) subtle HDR as well, leaving the image almost exactly the way it is now, but using a shorter exposure to bring the detail back to the winged statue on the right, as well as the clock face.
Overall, it's a fun shot that will work very well as a wallpaper. Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I love the effect of the shadows from the trees on the water. Good stuff, that.

Great shot, it's rare to see the eye stand still that long. Too, that bridge you are on moves quite a bit from foot traffic. Well done. Considering your camera why no 2560x1600?

True that a bit more sky and less water would have improved the shot, but that is a minor niggle in what truly is quite a marvellous shot, the effect on the water is simply stunning - well done on a sterling efort there !! By the by,

I think the pictures on this site are out of this world, no one does it better !! The pics make more than perfect desktops especially those of us lucky enough to have monster monitors !!
