In the Clouds

March 17th, 2008

Just a shot I took outside my house. Pretty much untouched except for vibrance.

I agree, not the best pic ever. I fixed it up a bit for my own liking: http://idisk.mac.com/kadakia-Public/Clouds.jpg. Try it out.

Nice image.

I do find it funny that the people making negative comments don't have anything of their own to share.

Oh and, mrrish, I think you should remove the link to your edited (and not very well edited at that) version of figone's work. You have no right to edit this without his permission.

The photo is not "complete garbage," what a useless comment. Its a nice shot of clouds and sky, nothing more nothing less. For me it is a bit bland, but some people prefer that type of image on their desktop. Just like I always seem to prefer some type of scenery that gives the appearance of depth and a place to escape to :)

I also agree with davidjearly that the edited version of the photo linked above looks much worse than the original, but again its all subjective opinion.

david

It's not like I am stealing credit by posting this elsewhere. I am putting it in his own comments section. I think everyone has a right to see a variation on it. I am not sure as to what satisfaction you achieve from policing everyone the people in these comments.

...And every individual has a right to comment on a photo, doesn't take a photographer to distinguish a good photo from a bad one...

mrrish,

It isn't about stealing. It's a simple fact that you have no right at all to be editing someone else's work without their permission.

You, and everyone else, have no right whatsoever to see variations on it, other than what the artist publishes.

As for 'policing everyone' - I don't think so. As a photographer myself, I simply value the concept known as copyright.

davidjearly, why don't u sue us?

rewind,

davidjearly makes a good point. No one has any right to edit this image other than the copyright holder, and the fact this this is a wallpaper site doesn't make much difference to that.

I've submitted a handful to the site over the past few weeks that I feel are more original, vibrant and higher quality images, but they're not getting posted. And honestly that's fine, I don't have a problem with that fact alone... except that this is the eleventy-billionth cloud shot on the site and it's not even that spectacular. No offense meant to the photographer, it's a relatively good shot, but makes me wonder what else is being omitted from posting in lieu of endless cloud shots? Just my humble, biased opinion.

David,

If you honestly think my actions have caused more harm then good, then our worldly perceptions are universes apart. I've done nothing to damage his original work, and I have simply made my own interpretations. I posted it under his original image, and also put it on my hosting. It's unfortunate you scream copyright when our very culture is a culmination of improvements on "original" material. Art cannot progress with everyone screaming copyright! copyright! Perhaps if I had profited or altered it significantly for personal gain, THEN I would be infringing.

I think the author would be more interested in seeing the community take interest to his photo. Because as others said: It's another cloud photo. (but, perhaps I was a little brash in saying it wasn't the best photo ever, and I apologize for that).

I just think it's funny people are screaming copyright infringement on clouds. Even more so a shitty photo of them...

I find it even more funny that some people don't understand the copyright lies with the image, not the subject of the image.

Therefore, regardless of the subject, the copyright lies with the owner and people should refrain from creating their own versions without permission.

I am sure that 90% of the artists who post their work on this website would prefer it if people did not distort their work without permission.

In my opinion, this situation was okay up to...
"I agree, not the best pic ever. I fixed it up a bit for my own liking"

Where it put a spin on the situation, in my eyes, was where it was no longer a personal modification, and it was republished and marketed as a better version... whether or not monetary gain was involved.

It may be an "insignificant" wallpaper of clouds that we can see for ourselves by just looking out the window, but the principle is the same... it still took a unique, creative effort from the original poster. Important moral thing is that *at least* the original artist source is always disclosed as to not claim the work as your own, but I don't fully understand copyright so I'll stop there... just my $.02.

Seriously, who cares if he edited the image, like he said, he posted it in his comments section, and didnt gain anything or earn anything by doing. You people need settle down. It annoys me when people make a huge deal out of something that isnt very important. He edited a picture of some clouds. Who cares.
