I've never done this before: The instant that the page loaded I literally spoke out loud: "Oh wow. Now THAT is cool."

Three seconds later it was (and is) my desktop background. I LOVE it. Great work.

Great stuff - I love surreal desktops, especially when they're elegant and simple. This one does the trick, and then some. Epic!

Man, I've got to say this is really good. Just to let you know how good it is, I literally just signed up (after leeching on here for over a year) in order to comment. Good job!

@addorio

You have to do something to fight these attacks of ENVY. And ASAP.

Great job Macindows. As always. Thanks for sharing :-)

I have to agree with addorio after viewing the original. This is more than an homage to The Rise of a Planet--it's much too close a copy.

Notwithstanding the above criticism, I think that the tree that sits at the center point of the horizon competes with the focal point of interest, i.e., the planet emerging from the clouds. The tree (relatively speaking) is a foreground object. If it were a person facing the observer, you would certainly ask him or her to step aside.

The "arterial" network on the surface of the planet is organic looking indeed. I found it chilling. It makes the entire event seem ominous.

Respectfully submitted, Stu B

@Endovelico
I actually agree with addorio, as the two pictures are almost unhealthily similar. Not to downplay the talent of the submitter, because I'm sure he or she is very talented, but I do believe addorio is correct in his statement.
You can low rank me now. :)

I too have to agree with addorio. When I first read the description on this picture, my first thought was to look at the original (thanks brizkit for posting), and after doing so I don't think I would call it "inspiration". While the quality of this work is good it's almost an exact copy. Also, although I like some things in this picture better than the original (i.e. the design inside the planet) I prefer the original. Just my opinion.

@Andrew Campbell

Please see all addorio previous posts regarding Macindows work (not only here). And these days nothing in this world is absolutely original so a good copy sometimes is better than nothing.
And I don't low rank no one. Some words make this better than me.

@Endovelico
After looking back at Addorio's past comments, I can see he's a pretty tough critic, but I still don't see how that automatically makes him incorrect. You are correct in saying that nothing in this world is 100% original, but there's a fine line between inspiration, and copying, and in this case, I personally believe that line was crossed. I actually mistook this as the original when I first caught a glimpse at it, having "favorited" the original piece months ago on DeviantART.

Wow... now who the hell is the funny boy copying my alias? :/ Don't you have anything better to do? Maybe trying to get your own material here... just a suggestion.

On this wallpaper, really great stuff. I normally do not pay too much attention to rendered stuff as my main thing is photography but this is really a proper one.

Other than that InterFaceLifter's, be aware, there are doublegangers around! The *REAL* me is ADDARIO!

@Andrew Campbell

I did not say addorio's was an incorrect member. What I said was addorio's criticizes a lot without showing nothing here.
To make downloads is necessary to have uploads and there is no doubt about it. Therefore we must go soft and easy on the uploaders. Now copy or not I beliave Macindows have a lot to explain. Best regards from Lisbon.

I understand the displeasure about this wallpaper. The reason I created this wallpaper was, that I was simply amazed by it when I saw it first on DevianArt. And since the original had not been uploaded to InterfaceLIFT so far, I thought it might be appreciated if a similar wallpaper would be available here. But if the majority of people thinks that this decision was wrong, then I'm the last to fight for this wallpaper.

InterfaceLIFT, it's up to you to decide!

LOL.... who's the fake addario? no offense to the real deal, but i was pretty convinced that comment was genuine after the Driftwood controversy! :)

anyway, i think this wallpaper should stay.... Macindows clearly credited the original artist. I agree it's more "reproduction" than "inspiration", but both are excellent

(besides, this one is available up to 2560x1600)

@addArio (the real one): I agree that this is a great design, but is not much for my tastes (to science fictiony for me).

@Macindows : I understand how you can use other work as inspiration. It is obvious that you liked other artists work and wanted to see if you were able to create something to the same effect. Art would not progress if people were not able to create based on other works of art that inspires them. This is still great work.

Bristol9,

I appreciate your post. Right after I posted here I did a Google for Europa and saw to my amazement the "organic" nature of the moon's surface to which you referred. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I'll be on Europa next week for a short visit with the family :-).

Addario is the most annoying person on this site. All he does is make snide remarks and generally come off as an envious little punk. If you don't like something, move along. HIs own work is nothing to brag about so I'm not sure where the attitude comes from. Can't the admin do anything to prevent him from continually bringing this place down?

i got a question. why were people so concerned over the copyright of the picture "In the Clouds" and not on this one? is the same thing. this fool stoled someone elses hard work and edited to his liking. this site is turning into a joke

I really loved "Rise of a Planet" wallpaper, in my opinion, this one is better =]
Love the veins on the planet, and looks like the clouds improved, and the black grass adds a nice touch ;)

Partner,

Mac credits his inspired work of which he drew inspiration from. We all draw inspiration from something. He gave credit where it was due - enabling us, the viewers, to locate with ease this "The Rise of a Planet" and compare. There is a clear distinction that I think you're failing to see. I hope not, anyway - because that would mean you're just wanting to stir things up. But the distinction in his work and the distinction in the credited work is there.

Move on.

This looks very similar to a work done by a student in my art class last year September 2007 - April 2008. It makes me wonder if I know the artist or if it is complete coincidence that the work was so similar since this was posted in April of 2008.
