Really nice work here, but I have to say that sky looks more like an impending storm than a summer day! Maybe it's just that shade of blue...

I thought it was real until I looked closely at the tree. Still a very nice job and it has found its way onto my desktop :)

I was really excited for a minute when I first saw the thumbnail and said 'this could be it, the wallpaper I've been searching for!' What a pity, its not real. Still, a good work though...

Made in Vue I'm guessing? Nice.

I think the main problem (as Clint mentioned) with the tree is the scale. It's a nice sized tree for the composition, and comparing it to the size of the blades of grass makes it seem pretty good, but then your eye follows to the detail of the leaves, and the realization that each one has to be as big as my head. More, smaller leaves would help this composition a lot. Also some fading in the tree. It seems a bit too crisp for the distance. Maybe change the DOF of the camera to just slightly closer, so it casts it in a slight lens blur. It's a good composition - it looks great as a thumbnail, it just needs some detail work to really make it stand up to its potential. I do really like the sky. The color is great, and the shadows the clouds cast are spot on.

I don't know what some of you guys are complaining about but to me this looks very realistic, very nice and clean. Keep up good work man. You just can't please everyone at times.

Nice scene. but it really needs a better tree. The cruving layour of the leafs make it to obvius it's fake.

I can't imagine how difficult it is just to make one picture like this, whereas, most of the pictures on here on photographs, which require skill -- but not as much long hours of eye strain. I think it looks great.

Odd, it sure doesn't look like a "summer day" from your description. Looks like a storm looming, dark and ominous. I wouldn't be hanging out by that tree at all. Could be lightning...

Nice work though!

Well, I guess speech is tightly controlled here (my comment was removed). I see nothing wrong with dissent. I'm sorry, but this insipid submission is no more inspired than stock Windows wallpaper. It just happens to be redone in tacky CG with a plastic tree pasted on the left. The idea that it should be credited simply because it took time is a disservice to quality digital art -- yes, art like Moehler's wonderful 'Bergs' desktop.

In my opinion it needs more detail at the base of the tree. It kinda just cuts off into the grass, when in reality there may be roots etc going into the grass.

There's so much about this that's low end CG that the second you see it full size it's blatantly obvious. These dead give aways need much work.

Eg: The symmetry in the grass patters, leaves, the pasted look at the trunk. It just goes on and on.

Keep at it though.

You guys are just way to critical about stuff. It's just a simple picture with a tree & some grass. I just do this for fun, I don't make a living at it..Anyway thanks for all the comments, good or bad...

You placed it here, you should expect critique. No one assumed you get payed to do this. I see out of work people all the time that do CG art that makes this look like a 6 year old did it.

s-a--m-- sure use however you'd like, thanks..Critique is fine but it just seems some you people just go way overboard..(plastic tree)..I'd like to see a six year do this...By the way I have a job...This is just something to do to pass the time....Seems to be doing alright even if it's not the greatest job...Sorry you feel that way, life must be rough...

the lesson to be learnt here is that you cannot please everyone. :)
I, for one, liked it and thought it was real until I saw the full scale version. I was only mildly disappointed since the placement of the tree, the clouds, the colors, and the mood that it evokes is still there, despite it being "fake".

I do agree that there should be some sort of standard so we don't need to sort through works of a "6 year old". But Richard's work is definitely above what I'd consider the work of a 6 year old. You can't just look at the leaves and say, oh, the leaves look fake, therefore the entire artwork has no artistic merit.
