Badwater
December 2nd, 2008
Sunrise - Death Valley California's Badwater salt pan at the lowest point in North America. The drying of the salt causes these incredible geometric patterns that go on forever.

This is fantastic! I love the color variations in the sky as well as the great structure in the lower part of the picture! Well done!

Loving the colours and the detail in the lower half of the image :) The signature in the lower right doesnt affect it either which is good.

Good contrast between the rough and the smooth, nice color tone, excellent proportion of land and sky. Love it = )

What a cool location. Now such landscape like that around here. Excellent shot. I bet you took a few shots there. I know I would.

Really cool...is that rock on the bottom, then, or...?
Looking at the thumbnail I thought it was mudcracks, but it looks like there's something else going on here.
This also brought to my attention your other works, specifically monument valley and crazy sun. All great stuff! Thanks for submitting

Thanks everyone,
This was my second trip to DV. The first was just a quick buzz though. Unfortunately, it had been raining so I was unable to get to the racetrack or the eureka dunes. I drove my 4x4 from Texas but it was no match for the horrible road conditions and all of the lava rock that had washed on to the road. DV is really a great place I recommend going in early fall.
Capt: technically it is rock as any precipitated crystal is a rock. But this rock is made of 90% table salt. In some places it is 5 ft thick or so I have read.
Ras: this is 5 shot HDR. I used a 1 stop ND grad filter and polarizer. Post processing was just setting the proper white balance and adjusting the curve and touching up some dust blemishes.
The Hog Rider: I'm actually facing southish and the sun actually came up a bit left of this image.

Nice shot, as usual! I love Stross Arts. 'Zion' and 'Crazy Sun' are also excellent, among others. Consistently great composition.

Eman2: I was camping for Thanksgiving. The place has some great alien landscapes. You can drive from parched salt choked earth to snow covered pine mountain ranges, water falls, sand dunes, fascinating mineral deposits, rocks that mysteriously move leaving tracks in the earth (the race track), the lowest place in north America and the second highest peak are right next too each other. Their is great hiking, great camping, hot springs, a bar, restaurants, lodging. I mean what more can you ask for?
brizkit: thanks again as you know i'm always working to improve my image quality. I've been reading a lot and learning a lot and practicing as of late. Hopefully it shows.
I'm really glad ya'll like it!
