City Sunset

January 25th, 2009

This spot is on a dirt road that goes up one of the many mountains around my house. This area looks down on the surrounding valley and is a relatively popular local place to view the sunset. On cloudy days, the sky turns deep colors during and just after sunset for only a few minutes. I used this opportunity to try out my new SIGMA 10-20 HSM but forgot to use smaller apertures to keep sharp corners, but it didn't bother me enough to keep from using the picture.

I have to agree "reeed" - I'd like this more with sharpened corners, but it's still great. Looks quite good on my screen. Thanks.

Wow! This looks very much like where I live. This has to be somewhere on the Box Springs mountains looking over Riverside!

beautiful, creepy, exhilarating...a movie could easily be filmed here! but it kinda makes me dizzy looking at the crooked skyline.

Nice shot! Very peaceful. For those wanting a flat horizon, here you go:

This is taken from box springs mountain! I should've taken a version with a level horizon, but I was without a tripod and was using a rock. The straightened version that brizkit did looks nice. Thanks for all the comments

The colors are stunning. Mother-nature sure knows how to leave us speech less. This is a great example of it.

Hey reeed, I probably should have left the editing up to the artist, but I just had a little spare time and figured I'd rotate it for dazzleme (and others). I didn't alter a thing otherwise. In fact, I actually prefer the original -- the angle adds a nice "in flight" feeling. This is a really cool capture.

Very nice shot. It has an airiness that I like so much in good photography. As for the angle of the horizon, it does impart an "in flight" feel as cited by Brizkit. However, unlike him, I simply propped up one side of my monitor to level the horizon!!!

Thanks britkit. I'm OCD and things like that bother me, haha. Reeed, it's my background now, thanks!

The city and the sky look so pretty.

Sorry Lehman, the city itself isn't that great, I live there. The sky is awesome from time to time. It's the smog that gives it the color.
