Lochan na Achlaise

February 12th, 2009

Near Glencoe, Scotland. Temperature was -8C and to my surprise the entire lochan was frozen over. Last of the morning light adds some pleasing colour to the scene.

The colors on this are wonderful, it's a shame that it isn't offered in 2560x1600, I definitely would have downloaded it. Nice submission ziggy.

This is a very nice submission, but i want to say that the foreground takes a lot of my attention away from the lights and mountains. And i don't really look at the mountains as much. Try finding some objects or trees to point to your subject next time.

The oranges have a summer/autumn feel, whereas the cooler tones have a winter feel. I don't know whether the two jibe. I experimented by cropping the sky as well as the foreground. The effect is much more stunning and cohesive. The problem is the aspect ratio is way to great for standard computer displays. Despite this, I'm taking the liberty of cropping it as stated above and saving it to my wallpaper folder. I think you have a hidden gem.

OK! this is a wallpaper but i got to agree with BetWinston is a very very nice location(!!!) but i found no interest in the foreground, i bet if you try to walk a couple of miles to the loch i bet you will find lot of foreground interest which will draw attention to the mountain here some inspiration by my very loved Landscape photographer Adam Burton:

Wow. This is so beautiful. I really like this. It's yet another excellent addition to my Wallpaper Master random rotation.

I do not agree about the cropping, you need the foreground to set the picture, I used to live in the Shetlands, and that does not look much different to this. The foreground shows how barren the area looks, well done indeed!

Robynfali, I did not crop the entirety of the sky and foreground. I don't know if that's what you were intimating.

Not at all, I am just saying that the photograph does not need any cropping at all, i merely saying that this is a VERY graphical outlook of various parts of scotland, and a very accurate representation of the area.

Thanks for the comments folks. In particular the one about walking down to the shore next time. No need for that. I did on the day. I have submitted one such shot and if it is accepted, I hope you find the viewpoint more pleasing.
