suggestion... the flare is crooked compared to the rest.

This would make for a nice unobtrusive desktop for the right audience, but that stock flare does look a little amateurish. I like the uber-simple approach, anyway. Hey IFL, you didn't like my island vector submission? :-P

PatrickBateman is right: this is relaxing and calming. So, ok, Matthew, so how did you do this? It's so simple, but yet it has certain elements to it that make me go "whoa". One element I like is that it has the appearance of a real photo due to the lens glare, but yet the simplicity makes it whimsical. Of course, it's also a very high-res piece which also adds to its high quality. Furthermore, the sun looks like a mid-day sun because it's so white and so bright. In other words, I think you did a very good job.

I'd consider keeping this if the flare was removed. Otherwise a very good start. I'm also not a fan of the purple/blue combination. It just doesn't feel like it goes together very well. I'd love to see a blue/green or just blue combo though.

Ray "flares" aren't hard to make, so it's kinda presumptuous to say every time you see one that it's a brush or shape someone jacked from deviantart and is therefore "amateur." They have their place, like any other overly used but still viable design element or technique.
